The new Harpy Fight sucks
The harpies can now charm your whole party without you able to do anything about it? I guess I will never do this fight anymore. What can you do about the harpy charm? I had no dialogue option to see what the song was, and then the harpies just start charming you without singing from round one.

My very first try at this fight was awful, it didn't even charm my characters but all the harpies went and my party wasn't allowed a turn even though their portraits were before the harpy portraits. The second, Astarion got charmed into the water and then he was able to break free so I moved him to the high ground, Gale was just stuck in the water with charm, my protagonist got charmed in the water, but was able to break free, Lae'zel just got charmed and stuck. The second round Astarion was just charmed and ran into the harpies range and immediately got killed by them... From there it was just a losing battle.

I can't imagine this fight on a harder difficulty with how it is now, because now you can't even fight it on Normal...:curiousspirit:

EDIT: I was thinking maybe I got this particular encounter like this because I chose to ignore the music, but I was role playing as, "Get out of the water now!" If I ignored how I wanted to role play this encounter then I think I might have gotten the regular encounter where the harpy needs to actually sing to charm the party. However, this completely breaks immersion if you *force* players to play the same way as the dev team just to complete a fight.

I also found that with multiple characters charmed my screen jumps back and forth to an unplayable degree. They really need to make Silence protect characters against the harpy song.
This battle already sucked. So it got worse?

Before the harpies had to sing their charm song, now the charm starts from round one, and no harpy needs to sing to charm anyone T_T. It's completely impossible of a fight, and this is Normal difficulty! XD

Harpies could charm your entire party from the first day of EA. It is far more likely that the harpies gained a faster initiative, or triggered the song via the cutscene, or a harpy you didn't see started the song, then they were using a song without casting it.

the fight is the same as it was.. can be easly done from the bottom of the valley or from the top... it's easy either way without slots.... or with..

No.

I always position 3 on the upper ledges, at least 1 in mid ledge and 1 on top ledge. I bring someone who can tank at the bottom and hurry breaking the concentration of the harpy at the bottom.

Edit: That's odd I was sure I read a patch note saying silence on a singing harpy was doable. Well it makes no sense for it not to work, im sure it will be implemented soon enough.

So the key to victory is meta knowledge and pre-positioning?

Of course not, can definitely win it either way. Fight will take a lot more time if you are not prepared though.

Edit: On my first playthrough I knew exactly what I was getting myself into, I'm familiar with harpies :V It's really hard to miss the blatant clue from the singing. I did have a LOT of trouble though.

My biggest issue with harpies is the Silence spell not working properly.

And if you jump on the island from the cliff on the right it becomes laughably easy

My opinion too, at least pre patch 5 and not true anymore if this combat really changed with the patch 5.

Start combat from low bottom close to the kid is the most efficient, combine with cloud spell and it's not charming that will break the strength of this approach.

It's just a matter of exposition which makes upper position a lot more dangerous because more exposed to multiple long range and relying more on RNG.

That said whole party charmed at start with combat, no matter how it was impossible as only one harpy was using charming. So most chance this combat changed at least for AI and harpies using charming a lot more.

I don't remind what happens when a character is charmed, in many RPG it means enemies won't attack them and this can be exploited. I don't remind how it works in this combat.

In Pheonix Point it's similar, no need panic when a soldier is charmed (in fact it's not charmed but mind controlled so a different spell in D&D), but sometimes enemy can also decide for a brutal blow on a charmed soldier and unlike with D&D it won't break the charming effect.

harpies throw attacks do nothing and they can't even focuse fire...

They do focus fire in patch 5, all four of them will land next to one person and knock them down.
