Fast Travel only allows you to move to certain points on the map, and you have to discover fast travel locations. This isn't just about back tracking though i mentioned it in the original post, it's also about getting around the map even when its unexplored. If it takes far to long for the characters to cross a relatively small area as it stands, especially in a game you may be reloading and replaying multiple times. There really is no benefit for the characters to be moving as slow as they are when they are in large open areas.
Other then passing perception and investigation checks and then being able to backtrack what they have discovered since the game does not point it out with a big red arrow you mean?
2.) Dungeon Crawling: Yes right now you can camp at any time, but if you have to actually leave a dungeon to do something else like finish a time sensitive quest, assuming their are some, or sell some loot or just buy some supplies, you can't teleport right back into the dungeon, you'll likely have to teleport to the nearest waypoint, and 9/10 i bet it wont be inside the dungeon you left nor at the point in th dungeon you left. Could their be vendors at your camp set? Sure i guess though the whole camp thing seems incredibly hokey to me to begin with.
3.) Back Tracking: Kind of gone over this already, if you missed something and the way point only brings you near the area you could be exploring around for whatever you're looking for, for awhile. Perception and Investigation Checks are done instantly no matter how fast you reach the point that the roll was required, what you seem to be asking for is for those things to be highlighted indefinitely until you explore or interact with them which is a different argument.
