So like, the PURPOSE of an exotic weapon was that they had different crit properties. Like, A Scythe was just a great-axe, except it had a x4 critical damage multiplier.
A kukri was just a Dagger that crit on a 18-20.
But now, ALL Weapons crit for x2 damage, and ALL weapons crit on a 20, unless specified by other effects.
You can still HAVE a Kukri though, it just uses Dagger damage dice. You can still HAVE a scythe... it just uses Great axe dice.
The PHB even says "Its okay to have stuff like Katanas, Sai, Nunchaku, just use the correct damage dice for Longsword, Dagger, and club" just not in those words
THe reason we have weapons system like this is cos all this systems were designed by geeks who never held a real sword in their hand let alone make one or use one.
Broken off table leg? 1d6 club.
Frying pan? 1d6 club
Boot knife? 1d4 dagger
Potato peeler? 1d4 dagger
boomerang? 1d4 light hammer with thrown property
Ship Anchor? 2d6 Maul - two handed
Pirate hook hand? 1d4 Sickle
Like, seriously, you can have any weapon you want now, there's not "Less weapons" There's MORE.
They just don't require a feat to use them, and the damage dice doesn't differ so much. So you don't need 4 different weapon types that use 1d8 slashing damage. They're all just under the 1d8 slashing damage weapon category of "Longsword"
If it was like that in game it would be good... but it's not, sadly..
And this is why he - we asked for more weapons?
Upside down world in away... In Pnp where you can't even see weapons you have all those options and in video game where you can and where on that fact they should build on, there is a limited selection...
Pirate hook would be cool same as Potato peeler but for start katana would be amazing.
BG3 CAN add more weapons. For example, there is no FLAIL in 5e, but there is a flail in BG3, the shattered Flail.
This flail uses Club stats (I think, maybe mace stats), and BG3 can do this whenever they want.
you could have a Frozen Swordfish that you wield like a Longsword, or a Stale Baugette.
BG3 could have a Wakizashi or Tanto user, and you get them as shortswords.
The OP is asking about exotic weapons, and the game CAN support them. They just don't give the crit multipliers that they do in 3.5.
Well, i don't cares for that crit multiplier, yeah it would be nice but ok we can live without.
Same as with the feats.. i can at least, even if they make the game more intresting but ok not a deal breaker.
At the end it's about the weapons yes they are a few Shining exception! And those are great we need more of them alot more!
I even found a meat cleaver and the chair leg thing and they are others but they are extreamly rare, it never even gets remotely close to the options you could have so i don't start naming other games cos peopel get hostile if you do that for some reason...
i know it's alot of work but that how it is... ANd Katanas could be a dex weapon same as the Backswords are now rapiers...
Then arrows fly into you cheesy shield through holes i reckon!
nah i'll pass on those, better off having a katana or 2 in my book...If i want stuff lile that i'll watch parody or play DoS 2 again where you have flaming pigs.:)
SO i can turn that Salami into a proper weapon !:)
I guess it could be possible to make them in the same category as a rapier, but slashing instead of piercing.
