If higher level play is needed, I'd much rather the devs go the not-lazy route of making an expansion.
1.) NG+ Could be a fine choice. As I said, I got my level 12 builds up and running with their legendaries and epics, and I barely had any time enjoying them. NG+ could theoretically be an answer for this.
2.) It would come with an officially supported high-level gameplay. They said, they wouldn't consider a higher level campaign, simply because the power level required for those kind of campaigns is very hard to justify (i.e.: creating a believably strong villain to support the idea of going for higher levels, thing is that BG3 could have allowed for gameplay up to level 16.)
3.) Adding new items, or stronger version of existing items.
4.) That was just a... quick template. But what if we allow our favorit goblins to receive proficiency? (As far as I know, NPCs don't really scale into the late game, my paladin with 27AC is nearly unhittable, most enemies struggle already at 24). They could also gain some "fun stuff", say a goblin booyahg gives them a storm aura, giving them haste, and allowing them do 1d8 extra lightning or thunder damage. There are options, where the NG+ could come with extra difficulty, or "retained difficulty level", with unique twists on the base game.
If properly done NG+ could be a great addition. With that said, even I'd welcome an extra campaign going up for higher levels, but Larian has turned it down consistently. Fact is that BG3 is an already well-padded-out game. Theoretically it'd be "harder" to make a campaign for higher levels.
I want to relive my journey with my level 12 paladin, with all her legendaries, with her build, or mind you maybe try something new, but without starting from scrap again and again and again.
There are so many ways they could do NG+ all valid for a reason:
1) you keep equipment and levels, difficulty remains the same, cause some people want to feel like gods... no new levels or equipments
2) you keep equipment and your XP gets reset - basically an easier playthrough, no new levels.
3) keep equipment, and xp, monsters scaled up given new abilities, you get new levels and equipment.
Im a strong supporter of the 3rd option. Its a midway between Larians reluctance to make a high level campaign and players desire to experience high level...
Besides that, some of us want to continue to play with our characters.
Side edit if you reset me to 1 at least "template my levels" so I don't have to remember what I put in and when I can just play level and "autolevel" basically it pulls up the level screen but all your choices are already made as they were the first game and you can hold y to keep that or change whatever you want but know what you did the first time through
In addition to the above, the enemies should have levels and abilities similar to those at the end of the game. This could make the game more replayable for people who aren't interested in starting from scratch or trying other classes.
