Harpies Ruin Honour Run
Short, sweet, no nonsense: A fight just occured where RNG had my party lured for the entire time; I hard-restarted one turn before TPK and because Mirkon died. 1, I'm really uncomfortable that Mirkon can die, I don't want that as an outcome in my hame and I'll hard-restart every time to avoid it.

Secondly, Luring Song takes away player agency during a higher-stakes game without fairness to the circumstance. It needs to be nerfed and nuked into the ground, Larian, you stuffed this unfun fight into the middle of the early game that has potentially distressing content with no warning, with enemies whose ENTIRE meta is removing player agency and thus *breaking immersion*

Fix this.

I mean I don't think it needs fixing. It's just a matter of approaching the fight smarter. It doesn't need to be nerfed or nuked. I get that it sucks when you roll badly but it's just how it happens sometimes.

Cool, status quo defender, thanks for your non-contribution, I think it *does* need to be nerfed or nuked, and you saying 'fight smarter' is dumb and ignores the substance of what I said, because it makes you feel good to tell people to git gud. Eat the proverbial.

I'm allowed to disagree with you. THe fact that I've gotten past that fight several times in honour mode informs my opinion. I also disagree with your position on player agency. That also informs my position as I feel the player doesn't have to be in control of everything all the time to feel immersed. I'm not saying to "git gud". I just believe the fight is entirely fair.

I'm sorry if I came across the wrong way but it wasn't my intention. What's your party makeup? And how are you initiating the fight? Are you sending the whole party down to Mirkon?

I fully agree with you. The fight is not impossible nor too hard, in Honour Mode in particular. With the right preparation it plays as well as "normal".

Plus in Honour Mode to lose and fail is part of the game. Same like getting your character killed by a rat who crits and shreds the character's windpipe. Without the danger it would not be worth to play Honour Mode. You could as well opt into custom.

Shadowheart has the spell Calm Emotions that makes your group immune to being charmed for ten rounds. Use it.

ah yes a skill issue right here, tips for this,

-Sneak all your party members and split them,
-interrupt the harpie singing, sneak attack from astarion would do well here
-send shadowheart(or any cleric) to where mirkon is and heal him + cast shield on him
- screw the harpies, id say throw them to the chasms with a high str character
-profit?

This is one of the best encounters in the game, which is typically very easy with too few enemies to contend with for most battles on any difficulty level. Should be a party wipe situation if you play it COD style and noob rush into it, not using tactics. Brings back memories of TOEE harpies who actually did wipe me out, whereas these BG3 harpies were significantly easier to defeat. The icewind dale easter egg was a nice touch.

This just happened to me too. I didn't even know what was down there, I was just exploring. Next thing you know I'm in a battle where my entire party gets lured and multiattacked into oblivion in a single turn.

Completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and definetly needs a nerf.

If you cannot handle the Harpies or live with the consequences if a NPC dies, maybe you are not ready to play Honour Mode. It is a minor side quest, this really should not destroy your honour mode. There is always a good chance someone dies. Mirkon, Jaheira in Moon Rise Towers, Devella Fountainhead in Act 3...

Learn how to use the rules, especially spells and abilities before you start Honour mode. And that there is always a chance that it will not be a perfect run.

True. True.

Literally did this fight several times in a row without silence cheese to see if the rolls were completely insane or not against you, and holy god. I think I may have killed one harpy by the time I partied wiped a single time. Every other run was cut short without kills. Tried at level 3 AND 4 (this being the successful single kill), and being the "right" level is practically rng hell. I got lured literally SEVENTEEN TIMES in a row. I'm pretty sure the roll with my lowest wisdom character was a 40-ish percent to save. Even when I did get saves, it'd be used up healing, attacking (and missing 70-80 percent rolls), and nothing else. The fight is ridiculously easy on normal, but this mode made me skip the fight almost entirely as no other fight after it (including double bear and phase queen) was anywhere near as unfair. I rather fight the matriarch without the web bridges before harpies again on honour.

Holy wall of text

I refuse to use her because she's the worst character. I wyll not elaborate.

Silence is not "cheese"...

Massive personal problem, but disregarding that, you still can get a Wizard to learn Silence at Lv3 to deal with the Harpies.

always somebody posting about havin trouble, then any advice given is disregarded because it violates some arcane roleplay they are doing. makes no sense
This fight is definitely a little hard at lvl 3 if you don't know what you are facing and go in blind without proper preparation, because both the song and the harpie damage (3d8 iirc) can result in vastly different outcomes. If you don't want to use tailor-made spells for those kind of enemies, better come back at lvl 4.
