Magic Mirror is worthless
As far as I can tell the only reason people wanted this was to change the appearance of other characters. What I've been wanting from the very start is fully customizable hirelings, and not to change the appearance I already was able to customize for my own character.

There is zero reason we should not be able to change the appearance of origin characters with the mirror with the same body-type restrictions.

There is zero reason we should not able to *fully* customize hireling appearance, up to and including changing their race and body type.

This is super glaring, especially if you actually try to do an evil playthrough and the vast majority of characters leave you. And Dark Urge even kills a few of them himself, including one of the ones who would have stayed otherwise with a persuasion check.

This is not what was asked for.

Slight disagree, people wanted magic mirror to be able to alter their characters after creation. I know I did. Characters often look a little different in creation than they do in-game, and certainly in-cutscene. I'm more than ecstatic about this update because now I don't have to start the whole game over again because I chose the wrong hairstyle.

I'm also iffy on editing origin characters.

That said, I agree that I wouldn't mind allowing for the alteration of hirelings. They're non-characters, so I'm not sure why the insistence on making them uneditable. If they had actual mini-questlines, it'd be a different story. But... they're just... well... there, lol.

It's a pity you need to start the discussion so aggressively when I want to agree with you.

Okay, so Origin characters are characters created by someone else, according to their vision of the character. I can respect that. No need to edit them. Let them be unique.

But the sock-puppet hirelings? They're definitively non-persons, so there's no need why we shouldn't be able to create them from scratch. Or if the game has only a certain amount of "slots" for followers, let us edit each slot as we please.

I'm sure we're all aware that this will lead into some people waltzing around with four naked hot ladies, but for the rest of us this would let us "role-play" several characters of our own creation in one playthrough. I have more character ideas than I have time left in my life to complete so many playthroughs.

The withers zombie guys don't matter; you can just roll 4 custom guys if you want. Its clunky, but how to do it is in every 10th post and online etc. They have the same social interactions and all of the wither's guys: none. The downside is no social or side quests, the upside is playing 4 character builds at once.

If you don't know the trick, kill the steam client, open a local multiplayer session with 4 instances of the game running. Make them all, save, exit everything, load single player and you control all 4 now, proceed. It is steam, not larian or BG3, that prevents running the game multiple copies at once on the same box.

Editing my own character after creation is not a problem, not something I am prone to do but sometimes it is very RP. Change Origin characters, I hesitate about doing. But Hirelings OH SO VERY MUCH PLEASE LARIAN. That to me at least is the Bread & Butter of the mirror which would add to the immersive use of Hirelings immensely.

Yep way better things that could have be done...

but i guess more than half of the team is on vacation anyway that's why we still don't have a Hot fix for patch 3 that probably broke more than it fixed...:)

Origin characters I can see not editing.

Hirelings and Tav should be fully customizeable except for their backgrounds in case of Tav. I have no idea why they don't want to allow this. Hopefully it's for technical reasons and not dumb developer reasons.

I'm really pissed with the last Patch 3, BUT: The mirror is not really worthless.

Most people I know wanted it to change their character ... By the way, me too.

This right here especially when you're wearing hats that actually change the way your hair looks underneath and the end result is less that desirable. Also it's nice when you have the Ersatz Eye to be able to change your golden eye to something a little bit more similar.

Generally speaking the only valid point here is why we can't change hireling appearance. Origin characters shouldn't be changable. Other than that just another bitter post...

It seems a safe assumption that the origin characters/hirelings weren't made using the Character Creator in the first place, and therefore can't be edited for technical reasons, because they aren't in separate pieces that can be swapped around like a Tav.

E.g. separate meshes for head/body/hair/beard, multiple textures for freckles/scars/makeup.

SO making hirelings editable would probably require the devs to scrap the current character models and remake them from scratch, and that would be sure to upset some people because they wouldn't look quite the same as they do now.

That's my guess anyway.

They shouldn't let you change the available hirelings appearances, they should simply add a "custom hireling" option to the bottom of the hireling list that brings you into the character creator on the spot. The mirror doesnt let you change the race or sub race anyway, not even for your Tav. and if you want a specific race with a specific class, you would additionally need to use withers to respec as well
Creating your own hireling at the source would be the simplest and ideal method
