[Feedback] Free True Soul Nere and Find the missing boots
This whole Grimforge sequence went a bit south for me I believe because of one decision I made: I decided I didn't like the cut of Gekh Coal's jib after he started talking about slaves, broke the conversation and dispensed justice on the spot. This meant I had no idea who Thula was, where she was or the significance of these boots.

The journal entries for Find the Missing Boots shed no light on this at all if you just kill Gekh Coal's gang. It's just a complete mystery. In fact the journal just says:

Get the Boots - we found Thulla, the deep gnome slave. She must have the boots.

Except I hadn't found Thulla and had no idea at all were she was. This entry just appeared after I killed Gekh Coal.

So when I got to Grimforge I had no real motivation to talk anybody in particular but plenty of motivation to find and activate the Adamantine Forge, which is what I did. Unfortunately for me since I needed a long rest after dealing with Grym and having cleared the rest of the area by the time I got round to looking at the Nere/rockfall situation seriously I was already out of resources and quickly found that whichever way I went with Nere I was in no position to deal with the encounter without a further long rest.

A further rest of course triggers the fate of Nere automatically and I end up with just his body.

Part of the reason for this eventuality is there is nothing in the journal to indicate there is any time pressure on digging Nere out. I'm sure there are comments about it made here and there but nothing concrete that nothing inclined me take them seriously.

I don't think this is that much of a biggie, I mean I get Nere's stuff and all, but I do feel a) I've missed out on a fair bit of content here and b) I've been highly confused about the whole Grimforge story line because I've no idea what this boots thing is all about on account of preemptively offing Gekh Coal.

I think consideration should be given to:

* adding a clearer pointer towards Thula and the boots in the event player kills Gekh Coal since this is vital really to resolving the Grimforge situation one way or another in an intended fashion.

* making the time limit on dealing with the rockfall situation in Grimforge more transparent. Nobody like timers at the best of times but hidden ones are the worst (remember all cRPGs have NPCs saying x, y or z must absolutely be done yesterday but it's almost invariably not true, IMHO you must be be specific about time limits in the journal)

The boots stories play out normal. There is nothing to add. If you miss it, you miss it.

Nere's story is rather obvious too. Even if you do not get close to the cave in, you get pressed instantly the moment you go for a long rest.

You can hardly get a stronger sign than that, and resolving the matter is not only easy but also not a must.

I think the point I made that you are missing is that the boots story goes off the rails if you kill Gekh Coal because the journal entry on Find the Missing Boots associated with that is incorrect and/or misleading. As written at the moment it appears it is assumed you will just talk to Gekh Coal and do his quest.

The story does not go off rails because of the boots. You are misunderstanding the whole questline if you think it does.
