Undead pets...
let the player control the monsters not AI? ... kinda anoying when AI doesn't cut it and does stupid things and dies for no reason. or runs into an area and ♥♥♥♥♥ up a prfect fireball opportunity by draging it's ass in the middle of the group... that goes double for control undead... after all the spell is called control?

Yeah, you should be able to command any number of them with a bonus action.

Yeah, I got a hold of the skeletons in the first crypt with an oathbreaker and considering the control undead doesn't count them as a party member they can't heal from short rests, the first heal spell that works on undead is 3rd level, and on a long rest you lose control it makes it very meh to use.

I grabbed the warrior after realizing that and boy was he garbage. A walking punching bag with limited health with no way to get it back.

This is why we need to control them so they we can get the best value out of them. adn when it comes to healing one can use spells like heroism or rally to keep them alive longer. But without direct control that's not really worth it cos they are stupid and like you said just a walking punching bag that can get in the way when you least want it to.

They really never got in the way, the issue I have is they try to fight high AC opponents and can't hit them so they keep swinging and missing till the dude is killed by someone else. Also I don't want to burn spell slots necessarily to keep them fighting, I wish they just healed with hit dice on a short rest and that would be a massive boon to keeping them alive.

Well those spells help but yeah....

That was the part i was talking about, the AI just doesn't cut it be it attacking, positioning or skill use. If i we compare it to other pets that we can control it's just so much worse.

For sure, a horde of familiar spiders and or rats hit with mage armor, aid, and bless do so much more work lol.
