Food Is Too Plentiful
Update/Edit - Having played up to the Druid Grove in Patch 5, I have used only food items to long rest (no camp supplies), and I've long rested two or three times (I think twice, but I wasn't paying close attention). I used up quite a few food items doing it, and I'd say that if those items were the ONLY food available then it would be balanced. But I also have around five camp supplies I haven't even touched yet that I found along the way (each companion also comes with one).

Suggestion: remove "camp supplies" from the wild entirely, restrict them to vendors only.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Experimental feature - to get the full benefits of a Long Rest you will now have to eat 40 units of food (I assume this is 10 units per character) in camp.

I like this.

For some cases it could work fine, but not all. I know that Astarion already complain he is hungry and we need rest, but I don't see Astarion comes and explain he needs a private chat, then at camp nothing sorry I forget, then snap at you neck when you sleep. Also cases that are just events triggering a discussion won't match.

Moreover this needs target when rest will be fixed and won't be possible everywhere and anywhere.

Well, in Astarion's case for that he could simply have a short cutscene with you saying that he requires rest (and possibly food). Then when you go to sleep at camp the cutscene with him could trigger.
What you seem haven't noticed is companions are already requesting rests, add a cut scene could not be more effective, now it's harassment, the cutscene couldn't be harassment, so quickly forgot by the player that have many more important things to do than some chat. Moroever rest anywhere needs a fix, and can be a problem with companion requesting a camp, when you can't rest at all. Well I suppose this could be synchronized with companions detecting areas where rest is possible.

I would say cutscene at places where rest is possible, and chat harassment but moderate enough. For compatibility there's still the cases of camp events so impossible to predict so companion request any rest.

Still there's another problem, there's a lot too many rest required, this can't work properly, and accumulate many evolution in one rest instead of spreading them like it's done currently could be a bad solution.

It didn't feel like harassment when they did it in DAO. I'm okay with being able to rest anywhere. Especially if the mechanic is tied into story development. You are making problems where they don't even exist yet, out of things you want changed in the game.

There may be many rests required for story development, but if they make it so you can choose whether units of food are to be used for the rest or not, I don't see it being a problem.

It's rare cases in DAO, and the harassment was for the BG3 chat, not a short cinematic. In DAO, if I remind well, ignore, and the cinematic won't repeat. In BG3 companions are like kids asking constantly if we arrived. :-)

I dunno. I haven't really felt harassed by their chatter ever, if anything I liked that they would say things as we went along in our journey. I think they added a whole bunch more things that they can say in the upcoming patch. Maybe they should make an option for whether it is on or off? Depending on people's preferences.

The opposite of harassment for me, I had no idea events were ready to take place in the camp. I had to rest like 10 times in a row and some conversations were even out of order.

The least they could do is have more than one event take place with each rest. If they all have something to tell you, they should do so.

Definitely, I didn't even realise it was limited to one per rest. But yeah, a short cut scene where they tell you they want to talk, or someone just saying we should go back to camp they are tired, would go a long way to not missing a lot of those important story moments.

My only hope is that it will be manageable and not as tedious as it sounds in the actual gameplay, because as an idea/concept it puts me off. I hope this wasn't done as a way to limit the times we can go to camp, especially with how much content there is in camps with the companions, because that feels counterproductive, plus I really preferred the old system, I don't really want to have to worry about supplies and there being a tax for wanting go to camp one time too many just to see if I can jump Astarion's bones already. Maybe das jus' me tho', I do be a tad more casual than a lot of others so, who even knows.

You'll be able to long rest without camp supplies but you'll get a reduced benefit from it.

source on that?

not sure what that means, but i found a video but all it said was "not as effective" and "you might recover half of your health and spells". Is there any more concrete details than that? Otherwise with that, I could just long rest twice and i'd be good to go.

I don't think any of us will really know what it means until we get the patch and accompanying notes, hopefully detailed notes.

that doesn't seem to cover what happens if you try to rest multiple times without any supplies at all. Also yikes on the "rest cost will increase as you level up" so not only is it a gold sink but we'll be carrying around hundreds of pieces of food. ugh, this is looking worse by the second to me

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that idea and will be petitioning against it. There's no reason for food to go up as we level - food is food.

So characters not in party don't get to eat? Or are they simply foraging while everyone else fights? If so then why can't they forage a bit more for the others. Selfish ********.

Yeah, this is a mechanic for a generic MMORPG and not for a D&D game.

If the developers want a money sink they should limit the number of short rests to 1 per long rest and remove food creation spells.
