Combat is interesting but sometimes I like to contribute my part to it, and see what inspirational or exciting moves my co-heroes take each turn on their own. Will Shadowheart demonstrate to us how to use her trickery skills the right way, in the right scenarios? Will we be awed by Gail’s cool crab combo? Tons of different paths to take to finish battles, and I’m happy to be surprised sometimes.
We would probably have settings like if it’s ok to use potions/scrolls/consumables, and when to self heal and when to heal others (depending on role). Also, outside of battle it could work too. Such as if the rogue (or whoever has lockpick or trap skills) (or other types of skills) should automatically use them when finding something to use it on.
I'd almost rather watch paint dry, since at least then you end up with a painted thing.
If you want something else to take control of your party members, one might simply suggest you play multiplayer. Larian provided an official discord with lots of lobbies for precisely that reason.
This isn't a RTRPG though with a pause key (though i press space bar before stepping away for periods of time)
Haha ok, thank you! There’s enough blossoms to go around for all of them, and do the crafting? And they don’t die out by the time you get back there?
It really wouldn't though. BG3 already uses an AI for allies - like in the initial Druid Grove fight against the goblins. Why do you think it would be difficult to use the same AI that controls Zevlor and Aradin and Wyll to control companions in your party? It's not difficult at all.
I agree. It seems like they can attach the enemy units AI to party members. There are other situations, I thought, maybe when you wear the hag mask, that your own party member starts to attack the rest of the party.
Yeah, I just don't get this perspective that some people have that everything always has to be built from scratch.
BG3 already has 'allied' AI and we already see it in the game. They just need to adapt it to party members and give us a couple of options to set it's behavior how we want (sort of like how PoE does it). Pretty basic, actually.
Can you imagine what the reaction would have been had the Souls games never had npc summons and then suddenly added them in for the newest game? There would have been rioting in the streets.
What's funny is that the original games had companion ai, and while it wasn't the smartest, they have simple routines you could select. "fight, aggressive", "cleric, support", etc. Hell, the fact that we have certain fights with friendly npcs that attack enemies and heal us says that it wouldn't be a huge stretch to add it to our companions.
I wish Larian would at least just switch it on as an option at the very least so people could choose to have it or not. They could add a disclaimer that you may regret some of the decisions your party members make and it would still be great.
