Jumping ????
I'm an old player of bg 1, can't remember if I played bg 2. I'm an old reader of forgotten realms books too.

I just tried the game for a few hours and besides the buggs, I stopped it because of that jumping abilitie everyone has. It is just strange to see everyone jumping like super powered kangaroos.

I can imagine drizzt, Artemis or the giant spiders having that abilitie, but it's hard for me to imagine Cadderly, bruenor, wulfgar or goblins having it too.

Gameplay speaking, where's the strategic experience in getting on a cliff or a roof if ennemies can jump 3 meters high to reach you ??

As an action all character can and always could jump. I am assuming that you mean the distance is what you find an issue with? If so, there is a feedback channel to tell Larian that.

There is also a jump spell that add lots of distance. I assume you are ok with this since it is magically enhanced.

One thing you note is that elevation is huge in this game right now and high ground gives advantage to the high and disadvantage to the low shooting up. So they need to make jumping up to close the gap viable to balance what they have done with elevation.

There is truth to what you say and I come from old school mechanics but this is the Mario brothers, super hero, fantasy age.

My player even wears [Boots of Leaping and Striding] to enhance my games jump distance. Then combine that with a jump spell and one leap will carry me father than you can run in a round.

Sometime you just have to go with it - lol.

Well, yeah i know what you mean. Myself i don't mind the visuals...
But i do think we should do a check rolls to see if you trigger attack of opportunity when you jump away... Wasted acrobatics skill check opportunity so much they could have done even make combat jumps that stun or do damage the sky is the limit...:)

I completely agree there. No way should I be able to jump away with out triggering an attack of opportunity. It makes no since without the mobility feat.

Lol thx. I am not a to great fan of 5e either but won't go detail here.

@Urdi I understand what your saying wait until you see mintaurs jump several screens rofl. the whole thing is that disengage and jump are one that and other thing make a feeling on dnd on steroids. Have a look back at release I preety sure stuff will change or have a look at solasta it feels totally like classic DnD even though 5e downs but graphics are poor but Readibg what you wrote I don't think youll mind

Yes, this sounds normal for the universe.

I understand what you mean, I expected BG3 to be out of nowadays standards since it should aim to replace BG1 as a reference as an heroic fantasy game.

Thanks for the video, I now understand why they implemented jump like it is and I think I have the same conclusion he had ... and that is : The jumping mechanics makes no sense.

Solasta is already on my watchlist and after playing at BG3, i'm sad to say that I'm sure i'll enjoy that one more than the one in my favorite universe which is forgotten realms :(

Graphics never made a good game, check Rimworld with 1.7% negative reviews and Wildermyth with 3% negative ones, they have questionable graphics but surpass in ratings all the AAA games with great graphics I know.

I share that opinion but in my exp most not.

I was just thinking about that minutes before I saw that post.

If you use any form of magic, that's ok and the "jump thing" would have never crosses my mind.
But as a "normal" human character jumping up & down AND with that distance that made me raise an eyebrow.
If I was able to jump like that, I would be in the national ski team in my country ! :)

The standard jump distances here are consistent with long and high jumps with 10-foot run-ups in 5e for the most part. The main concession here is that long jumps in excess of your remaining movement range while under the effects of the Jump spell or a particularly high Strength score isn't limited which creates some strange scenarios, but I'd say its even weirder that you stop dead and fall straight down if you run out of movement allotment while in midair as TT rules seem to imply.

Jumping also requires no action per TT rules. It's simply a part of your movement.

It does seem a bit weird, especially at first, but I got used to it. I don't like the sound effects they use for jumping, especially the landing. It sounds too heavy to me, lending to that superhero/hulk jump kind of feeling.

It just broke the immersion for me.
Yeah, it bothers me that they made Jump and Disengage the same action too. Like... what? I'm a magical dude that fights at range casting magic spells, a battle hardened warrior comes up to me, and I dodge away from him by... hopscotching fifteen feet away? It's... so bad.
