Spiders can't see in the dark?
I have a ranger and I've been using the spider as a animal companion mainly because of the hit points. Recently I found my way into the underdark and I've been using my spider to scout. Since spiders spend most of their time in dark places, it seems like a oversight that the spider doesn't have dark vision as a attribute. Also, it seems odd that the spider can only use the web in combat. Both of these seem like oversights or am I missing something from the rules/

I'm not familiar with Beast Master Rangers in either 5e or BG3, so I'm not sure whether the companion is a regular spider or giant spider. But both have darkvision in 5e (30 ft for the regular spider; 60 ft for the giant spider, plus 10 ft of blindsight). So yes, this seems like a dev oversight.
