Lady Janneth's Mansion Crash, is it new?
I have barely had a crash over 150 hours of BG3 but if I spend 10 minutes in this mansion my game crashes. I have 2 ideas: either it's a new crash introduced by a patch, or it's a result of events in the mansion.

In the combat log, I get at least 100 updates a minute about candles burning and I suspect this could be the source of the crash. Any ideas?

It happened to me, too. I was hoping today's Hot Fix might have solved it. Maybe not. Rats.

I ended up hitting F5 about every 30 seconds and once I got through the first fight with the poltergeists it stopped happening. But the game must have crashed 30 or more times before I could get through it.

I can clear the first few floors, talk to her, and usually crash in the next hallway. Always get through the fights in 1 turn so it's always the same length of time.

It isn't new, because I remember experiencing said crashes at least 2 months ago.

They are intermittent for me. But they do happen. That said, because they are intermittent, may be exactly why Larian is having such a trouble dealing with the problem.

This is beyond my programming knowledge, but from what I've read, it has something to do with the interactions of the candelabras re-applying the burning effect, the poltergeist "telekinetic" attacks on the player, from the skulls, and the invisible ghosts of the house being made visible through see invisibility.

Somehow - intermittently - this all combines to cause the crashes. Causes some memory overflow issue? Not exactly sure what's going on, but this one is NOT solely mod-caused.

I also for reasons I can't understand, occasionally evade the problem and finish making it to the atelier and finish the quest. Why it doesn't always trigger? Dunno. But it OFTEN does.

This was a problem pre-patch 6. Obviously see invisibility affects it. You can destroy the candelabra and the skulls and/or move on. You don't need see invisibility.

Otherwise, what I also did is clench my teeth quick saving after every little progress. It took me patience and roughly 10 crashes but I did the area. Oskar, I require double payment for the effort.

Jannath's mansion was a nightmare for me for days. It didn't crash, but the environment would get stuck on a turn forever.

Last week I got lucky and was able to get through it. From my experience, the game has had a lot of performance issues since patch 6 (especially in Act 3), and every hotfix since then seems to make it worse. Obligatory: I have never modded this game.

Yeah I noticed it too almost instantly. Sent a bug report with the crash logs, or well steam did with how it's set up. I personally love how it's set up saves me the time of finding my logs to send in the report like other games. Thank you game! I have noticed that restarting steam helps but I tend to avoid the mansion till it's patched just to avoid the annoyance of constant crashing from the ghosts and gales see invis spell once hitting the first stair case.

Jannaths mansion was extremely bugged on release, never crashed, and now I don't do the quest anymore so I don't know: I always just kill the artist in act 1 to make sure the quest never happens.

In this mansion I had the only crash during my Honour mode run, it was Patch 5. Luckily, except some playtime lost, there were no bad results. Second trial I had no crash.

As for my installation, the problem started occuring after Patch 5. Since then it hasn't been fixed. I managed to walk through the quest only quicksaving here and there. After dispatching ghosts, there hasn't been any crashes.
Personally I tend to blame lots of candles and floating pieces of furniture 'acting' randomly, because in my experience crashes happened either with See Invis potion/spell or without using them.

Another fun bug with the mansion is that if you mess with the painting or the door when they are red, up in the attic 4 floors up, the flaming fist out on the street will see it and come to arrest you.

The closer to the (missing) upper city things are, they less they were tested.

Also noticed a stuck in dialogue bug with one of the fists in the graveyard right by that area that triggers if one of your party is away from the others. I had to kill the fist to get them out of it.

There is one cool bug in that area I saw on YT where you can pick up the body in the dorms in Cazador's palace if you have necrotic resistance and then just walk around town and kill everyone around you in a large radius.

That whole questline to me is a waste. Ive done it but its always bugged, before recent patches the skulls were even harder to kill and you dont really get anything or any satisfaction. It's the one quest in the game I actively despise. I'll take Grym any day

Dealing with Mystic Carrion, which is (usually) the follow-on part, is the fun part. But the normal way you get led to Mystic Carrion (spoilers?) is doing Free the Artist first and getting to the atelier of the Jannath House. The painting is what leads you to him, and then to figure out what's going on with him.

And yep, I can tell you after dealing with Mystic Carrion, and coming back to Jannath House, for the finish of the quest and the turn-in, there are never any crashes if all the ghosts have been killed and skulls destroyed. (And even if there are ghosts still 'alive' on floors you don't visit.)

My guess is the crashes are from pathing of the AI to determine routes to the player characters. BG3 does not handle multiple floors very well and the algorithms they are using have already been patched 100x over from enemies being stuck in combat not knowing what to do in several areas of the game because it couldn't determine the route needed to move towards the PCs.
