What's my casting ability if I'm wizard sorcerer?
if I cast a spell as wizard sorcerer does it use intelligence or charisma?
does it depend on which tab is the spell sitting in the character menu?
what if I learn a new spell from scroll, do all of them depend on intelligence?
what if I learn a spell that can also be learned by sorcerer? does it still depend on intelligence?

I tried looking for that but I just can't find it.
All it says is what type of save it has

I'm looking at a too tip right now for lightning bolt, it says 30m DEX save
it doesn't say intelligence or charisma anywhere

Spells learned from scrolls will use the wizard ability.
In general, the spellcasting ability is the latest class you took 1 level in.
If you go wizard then sorcerer, you'll use charisma.
If you go sorcerer then wizard, you'll use intelligence.

Spells gained from Wizard levels are INT, Sorc levels are CHA, Spells learnt from scrolls are added to Wizard list so they are INT, Spells from items use the latest class you put a level in (for example if you put 11 levels into wizard and the went cleric at level 12 you will use WIZ for items)

I play on PC so I don't know if thats your platform but that is NOT correct about the last class you took will be the modifier.

It solely depends on what class learned the spell even if there is cross over (both classes can learn this spell)

if that IS the case it will be your base class started level 1 with OR the more powerful version of that spell will be automatically used and that will be the modifier

if your casting from a scroll there is NO modifier plus or minus only a saving throw.

If learned from a scroll it will be wiz (int). if you mouse over the spell in your casting bar it tells you the save on left on the casting modifier on right . I do not know about consoles though, sorry

I am On PC, it does not say casting modifier on ANY spells
there is only save
for Ice Knife it says 2m, 18m, DEX save, Attack Roll
is that int or what?

Cast a spell, check combat log. It seems that there's a lot of contradicting info

The spell prepared for Wizard will use Intelligence while the spells acquired via Sorcerer will use Charisma.

Depending on your Int and Cha you will probably want one or the other to focus more on utility spells that don't care about your stat. That or focus in both Int and Cha, some into Con and maybe leave Dex alone or use items to help with that.

This is why Sorcerer, Warlock, Paladin and Bard are better pairings since they can focus on just Charisma. Wizard can pair well with Arcane Trickster or Eldritch Knight that would use Intelligence for the spells that they gain.

This is covered in bg3,wiki under spell casting. First off, a spell you learn as a wizard or as a sorcerer will use the spell casting ability for that class. The spells you know in a class are listed under that tab in spell casting. If you have a spell in more than one classes, the game will choose the highest spell casting ability available for that spell when you cast the spell, automatically. So if you have shield as Wizard and as a Sorceror, and your Intel is 18 and Charisma 16, Shield will always cast from Intelligence. If you then get a higher Charisma than Intel, it will switch to Charisma. This is ONLY for spells that are in both tabs because you learned them as both classes.
If you learn a spell from a scroll that is a wizard spell, so it will be treated the same as any spell you learned as a wizard. Because scribing from scrolls is an exclusive Wizard ability.
If you use a magic item or a scroll (casting from the scroll, not scribing/learning) then the ability modifier used is the spell casting ability of the last class in which you took a first level. That applies even if its not a spell casting class. Every class has a designated spellcasting ability -- which is also in the spells wiki. So if you went Wizard first and Sorceror second when leveling up then your item spell casting ability is Charisma. If you took a level in Barbarian after that it would be whatever Barbarian's spell casting ability is.
I too searched high and low for this info but it was in the wiki the whole time.

I did read the wiki but it's just not very clear
like for example do cantrips count as spells and if so which ability?

it would be SO MUCH EASIER if the game just shows you this in the tooltip for each spell.

The game does tell you. Go to your Spellbook and under Wizard or Sorcerer it will tell you the Subclass (if any), the Spell Modifier *, the Spell Save and your modifier number for Spell Attack.

In your Spellbook it will show you all the Cantrips and Spells for each associated class. Cantrips are spells but they can be used infinitely and don't use up Spellslots.

To answer your question, yes it appears in the tooltip, but first you have to hover over the spell, once the tooltip appears press 't', then hover over the saving throw, then press 't' again, then over the DC(difficulty class) and press 't' again and that will show you which ability score it uses, in this case, it is charisma, therefore it's a sorcerer spell.

Basically 't' acts as a way to get more information and it can go a bunch of levels deep, use it on items, skills, spells, any UI element that gives you game information! 😋

Get the headband from the ogre and then dump stat INT to 8 (headband gives you 17) and then you can make your CHA your main stat, which would be 17 as well and then it won't matter.
