Subclass expansion?
We have subclasses not only from the players handbook but xanathars guide to everything. Why don't they finish them off from both sources. The fighter class in in a sorry state with only one viable option.

Every class they add will only add more bugs. That's how software works.

It will also make it harder and harder to balance. That's how games work.

And there is already a crazy number of classes and options available to choose.

And with all due respect, I have played and enjoyed all three fighter subclasses, and did not find any of them to be not viable.

Subclasses are already balanced thanks to WotC. Champion is one of the least played subclass ever...

Shall I point out that your two sentences here are in conflict with each other, or do you recognize that yourself?

Popularity != power. Champion is, frankly, a very dull subclass, and in normal D&D when you're only playing one character being boring is kind of a death sentence for a subclass's popularity. Doesn't mean it's not necessarily balanced against the others, and I imagine it's honestly a lot more popular in BG3 due to the player having to manage (at least) 4 different party members' builds as well as the large amount of loot you get.

This game isn't hard enough for any of the classes or subclasses to not be viable. There aee differences in play-style or overall preferences, but there is no such thing as a non-viable subclass.

I agree that Champion isn't really that interesting if you'd play it as a pure class. Multiclass it could be kinda interesting trying to go for a Dual Wield Melee Crit Build.

Half Orc
6 Fighter Champion
4 Rogue Thief
1 Cleric War Priest or Tempest (more attacks vs retaliation against melee)
1 Warlock The Old One for AoE Fear on Crit

This would give you 4 attacks per round, sneak attack to make use of, Cleric and Warlock Spells for a bit of utility. 3 Feats as well.

Champion is my most picked multiclass. Yes, Battlemaster is much, much better if you play pure fighter. But champ is amazing when used for multiclassing.

Two viable options: Eldritch knight and Champion are fantastic, especially when you multiclass them.

I find the best vanilla subclass is Battle Master. Vanguard is the better Eldritch Knight (but it's its own thing, and requires a mod). Champion is ... just boring.

Now, if ya wanna get more subclass mods from Nexus ... focusing on fighters: there are options for Arcane Archers, Samurai, Psi Warriors, and Rune Knights. Brute, Marksman, Echo Knight, Barnneret, and Cavalier. Arcane Archer and Marksman could turn your fighter into more of a ranged than "in your face" combatant.

Cavalier I think would be even more cool if the game actually had horses and other mounts for mounted combat. That's a point I'll give to WotR, which had mounted combat, but then, of course, it also was bugged to crap as usual, thanks Owlcat. I suspect for now, making usable combat mounts is probably beyond something a modder could do at this point.

No PAID content planned. Doesn't mean they won't ever put in free updates. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that either. Possible, but still by no means something to count on happening.
