Usually, games only manage this when they get a massive discount or they're given away for free (HL2, for example).
I read the other day Dragon Age is the cause people are playing more Baldur's Gate 3 again.
That made me chuckle.
I really enjoyed the DA games. Was very interested in the latest one. But after watching some reviews of it, it just feels like a step backwards. So it helped to keep me playing BG3.
The new DA has a lot of things going for it. There's absolutely a demographic that has a ton of fun with the game. I don't belong in that demographic. At all. It's tempting to be sad that the name that once made some of the greatest RPGs has now turned their focus to action games, but I'm too old to be moved by the fact that things change.
It's not a terrible game. It's not great either. But above all; it just isn't made for me. And that's okay.
E: Done but...
Wow. Looking at the nominees for 2024 TGAs, I played just two of all the games across the categories (BG3 is nominated for Community Support), watched one of the shows, am anticipating none of the games in that category, and never heard of any of the content creators or esports players and teams.
I guess the games released this past year just weren't for me except one game and one TV show (and one more game that received good support over the past year).
Either that or the nominated games released this past year are vying for the least-worst GotY. (That excludes BG3 because its category doesn't mean games released this past year.)
I think everytime a new big rpg gonna come, bg3 while rose in popularity too either from reignited memories or to compare with the new one.
Does that demographic actually exists?
And already finished? Huh, surprising.
Honestly, as an RPG, it's probably best compared to TW3. Very few "real" choices, the ending is decided at the end regardless of what you did, classes/specializations (since TW3 doesn't have "classes" as such) don't really matter.
It's a fun game, but sorely lacking as an RPG.
You can look up sales figures and reviews yourself, to verify that it very much does. I doubt the demographic is as large as the developers would have liked, but pretending that it doesn't exist is disingenuous. But I suspect you already know that, and are for some reason arguing in bad faith. I'm sorry you didn't get the game you wanted. That doesn't change the fact that other people might be able to enjoy it.
You know how to use a computer, and that means you're too old for that childish "Us vs Them" mentality you're parading. It's okay for other things to exist than the ones you like.
I was really looking forward to DA-V - but the woke rubbish / look of game put me off -
So I finished BG 3 - and about to play BG 3 again - this time with mods
