Cazador overscripted, attacks nerfed, no longer strategic
So I worked out a Cazador strategy, got him to the edge with my displacer beast form, then had Karlach push him off the edge to end the ritual. Then found out that Cazador is scripted to rubber-band back up to the platform. That makes no sense, and it sounds like the outsource scripters put a barrier to fighting smart, rather than "fair".
Then ALL the enemy got to move, killed Shadowheart, and now Astarion has a turn.
So I saved game, and tried to cast Tasha's Hideous laughter on Cazador, Hovertip shows a 25% chanice, and of course Cazador saved. As a test, I loaded and cast again, ten times, and ten times, Cazador saved. This is at tactician level. From my perspective, the fourth wall is down and this is no longer fun or interesting... it's as if the scripters have watched what clever tactics people devised and then wrote scripts to foil those tactics. I am considering abandoning this side quest. Thoughts?

Cazador surely realizes he can turn into mist and fly rather than plummet to his death?

Enemies capable of flight typically can't be killed via cliff as the post above me states.
And as for Cazador saving 10 times in a row, it's a run of bad luck on an already low chance to succeed. There are no scripts or rigged rolls (unless karmic dice is enabled in the settings), and a large number of threads on that topic concluded the very same.

nope. After you wrote that, I did a search, surely I must be wrong. And people posted that they had done just that... successfully. So it must have been scripted. As a consequence, it's a wipe. I am on my third wipe... and btw this is my second playthrough... first in balanced mode and now in tactician mode.
I tried it again.... cazador simply respanwns after dying, and doesn't wind up in the sarcophagus.
If I sort this out, I'll post here.

Again, I'd rather be wrong. It is not about winning or losing, but about a realistic feel, regardless of hardship.
Cazador is a vampire lord.

They can turn into mist or bat.

And 25% yeah, that's gonna miss a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

Yes, people have successfully pushed him off the ledge to his death before. BEFORE the patch that made it so that he "remembers" that he can turn to mist and fly to avoid death. Same with the phase spider matriarch in the caves under the Blighted Village remembering that it can phase back to the top of the ledge rather than fall to her death.

Dude, do you not realize Cazadore is a frikkin vampire lord? And what are Vampires known for? *gasp* Turning into bats and mist, and sometimes FLIGHT!!!!!

All I read was someone didn't prepare for the actual fight and just is upset they can't cheese a boss :steamsalty:

Didn't even think about pushing him off the ledge (which wouldn't make much sense for a vampire anyway), Spirit Guardian completely shut him down and it was almost a one turn-kill.. trivial encounter. Didn't try the fight in an Honor Mode run yet though, but by the time you fight him (level 12) I don't expect it to be very hard if you're minimally prepared.

That seems right

The push trick did work before it got fixed to better match how a vampire lord would handle it

That trick has not worked in months though

True, but pushing any ancient vampire to their death makes zero sense in dnd and most fantasy setting

But if the op is having trouble with this fight without cheese not sure how they will handle other late game fights really.

Very true.

At that point of the story you are usually long level 12. And I consider the game still easy even on Honour Mode, once you figured out how to do what and when in combat.

It is hard to imagine how can be troubled at that point of the story, unless they never cared about the combat to begin with.

You can cheese stuff up tll the end of act 2 really, so is possible to miss some learning curve but would be hard to get out of act 2 without lessons learned
