What's your ideal companion party?
Which companions are your favorite to have in your party? It can be for combat or story purposes.

For me I always need Shadowheart and Lae'zel in the party because I love the bickering between the two. I love Gale but the third slot can be swapped between Gale, Astarion, or Wyll. I find it difficult to justify Karlach only because it goes overboard with tankiness with essentially three tanks and an archers so I typically don't have her with.

I open up the game four times and use a multiplayer lan connection to make a fully customized party.

Depends what I am playing as to start with.
Also sadly most conversations get shunted to the player character now which means you more or less need to build a charisma based character so that limits things.

Before it shunted things to my character I liked playing a mix of eldritch knight/wizard then having shadowheart (ranger/cleric), Asterion (bard/thief) and gale (storm cleric/wizard).

Now that it shunt's conversations to the main PC I prefer to use either paladin/warlock/sorcerer, bard/sorcerer or with mods a Bloodrager/sorcerer.

based off the main story, gale, shadowheart, and lazel just have too much tie in with everything and almost feel necessary.

I truly wish this game would've implemented a swap out ability for conversations. Sometimes certain character with pathfinding accidentally trigger events because they were you in the trigger event zone and you can't swap them out. Really can't understand the reasoning behind not implementing such a feature. I feel that would've made the game more interesting and honestly increase the roleplaying potential.

My lover Shadowheart because her quest line is great
Karlash or Lae'zel because you always need someone that hit hard in your party
Jaheira because she is quite versatile in the city

Yeah, it was a bad mistake when they changed it so the player character gets most of the conversations.

The real solution would have been what you said ... let anyone in the party handle any conversation. Instead, they reacted to players being annoyed when their Tav was shut out of the conversation by just having Tav take over. It weakened the game rather than improving it.

Anyway, My parties pretty much always include Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Tav, and one other. The one other depends on my goals for the playthrough and also on what skills Tav brings. It's usually Gale, though.

Lae'zel does the killing, Shadowheart does the healing, and all the other tasks are taken by the other two.

Obviously if I am playing origin rather than Tav, things change around a little.

Depends entirely on what I'm playing. But when playing as a magic backline, I liked the Lae'Zel, Shadowheart and Astarion combo.

Tav - Durge (for the story line)
Shadowheart - Cleric (also best redeeming story arc in the game)
Gale - Massive AOE
Astarion/Karlach (depending on Tav's class) - Great dialogue and rogue skills or Karlach's barbarian hard-hitting skills.

I use Lae’zel, Shadowheart and either Astarion or Wyll. I don’t have a use for the rest.
Renlish Nov 17, 2024 @ 7:23pm
My Tav (whatever it happens to be)
Astarion, Karlach and alternating between Gale and Shadowheart depending on how much healing I think I'll need.

Does anyone else here rearrange the party so they are always alphabetized?

Any of the gals. Class does not matter since you can easily change classes on any of them.
