Necromancy of Thay disappeared from inventory

I put the book in a backpack and now it's gone. My inventory was looking cluttered so I sorted it with pouches and packs. I checked every one on my character packs/pouches and checked all my other characters as well.

I don't have ANY origin character as I'm using an all custom character team. Nearly all of the origin characters were left behind and I'm currently in act 3. The only ones I have now are lae'zel and jaheira and they exclusively stay at camp at all times.

I do have mods but none of them effect my inventory. I've been playing with them since the beginning and I had the book still in the middle of act 2.

I've tried using the script extender to spawn the item following the directions in the link below. I made sure that the command was correct and the UUID was correct. I made sure to press enter before entering the command. Nothing happens and no book. No errors. The console doesn't spawn any other items either. So either the script extender doesn't work anymore or it doesn't work on story items.

I also tried using spawn any item mod too. I followed their instructions and the mod definitely work for any item I tried. But it didn't work for the book. The mods link is also at the bottom.

So currently I'm at a loss as to what to do. I was hoping if anyone here would have a solution to either why those methods didn't work or of another method to get the book back. Cus it just sucks that I'm RIGHT at the end of the game and now the books gone.

Edit: My characters have never been jailed. I know that it can happen. I still had the book at the end of act 2.

Edit 2: I've been able to test with the book with an earlier save and figure out that I have a glitched backpack in my inventory.

The only item affected by this backpack is the book. If the backpack exist, the book will vanish no matter the container. If I take everything out of the backpack and place it in the world, the backpack will vanish and the book could now be placed in any container without vanishing.

So now at this point, I'm just trying to find a way to get the book back or at the very least get the rewards I would have gotten if it didn't vanish. Cus honestly, it vanished 20 or 30 hours back in my save and going that far back after doing so much is not worth it.

It's pretty much impossible to lose that book in an unmodded game. It's like the prism ... it won't *let* you take it out of inventory after you have read it.

I guess if you never read it, you might be able to leave it behind? I don't know, because I always read it as soon as I get the unlocking gem. Free +1 on wisdom checks for the rest of the game.

The chances are very high that it is something caused by mods.

But in either case, is it maybe a multiplayer session? If so there can happen some odd stuff...

Mod issue. The book CANNOT be lost once you open it.

It's pretty much impossible to lose that book in an unmodded game. It's like the prism ... it won't *let* you take it out of inventory after you have read it.

Oh I know the mods weren't the cause. I definitely read the book and got the buff. I can reload a save right before entering balder's gate and I still have the book. It was right after I reorganize everything. I put several story items in a backpack including the book. And now it's suddenly gone.

To the guys saying you can't lose the book without mods... LOL

That quest is notorious for becoming unfinishable as there are several points in act 2 where the book will just vanish.

I can now confirm that if the book is placed in ANY container, it immediately deletes it. I can place my entire inventory into backpacks and other stuff and still have everything. It's ONLY the book being deleted.

Edit: honestly at this point. I don't even care if it was caused by a mod or not. I just want a way to get the book back.

The thing is that mods can alter your game in a way that it gets possible to loose it. For example as you described by putting it in a container.

What happens if you open the container and use take all, does it appear again?

What is if you use the item search function, does it appear?

And if not, then your best solution (without mods, hacks, cheats) is to load a savegame where you still had that book.

I mean, my thought process was I had the book right up til the city balder's gate. If mods were going to make the book vanish, it would had done so when I got the book and not right when I got to act 3. But it just seems the book vanishes when it's put in any container. And it's ONLY the book.

I haven't tried the "take all" thing. I've tried everything else. I just recently figured out that no matter what container I put it in it will immediately vanish.

And I'm not against using whatever means possible to get the book back. It's just annoying that it just suddenly vanishes and it's the ONLY item that does that.

All I can suggest is the same thing we always suggest to Sims players who are 100% sure their mods aren't the issue. Take out all your mods, and start adding them back in until you find the one that is causing the issue.

The book also vanished from my inventory when I tried to move it to a in my inventory to a pouch. It simply vanished. I had already read it in once in Act 1 when I got it, lost it about half an hour after that. I have not had any mods installed ever.

So essentially it's a bug that it can vanish if you try to put it to a pouch.

I can confirm that the backpack itself was bugged. I removed everything from inside it and placed it on the ground. As soon as it touched the ground, the backpack itself vanished.

Edit: I tested with an earlier save. If the glitched backpack exist, the book disappears regardless of the container. If I get rid of the backpack by placing it on the ground, the book no longer disappears when placed in a container.

mine also disappeared, I am testing with a previous save and idk if it is the book that is bugged or if it is the mods, I use many mods but only one for bags, and I deactivated it and still when I try to move the book to any bag normal of the game the book bugs without letting it be moved anywhere, im already sure that this run will not end with the book/buff but in the next run idk what ill do to keep the book

Im pretty sure that is not supposed to happen. Necromancy of Thay is supposed to be undroppable once you open it the first time. If you try to move it, it will magically jump back into your inventory. Its possible there is some bug at work..
