How hard was it?
If this is your first run through the game, I wouldn't recommend starting with honor mode, as there is a definite learning curve. I did my first playthrough on balanced, and while almost all of it was straightforward, there were a few areas where I struggled.
I jumped from there to honor mode on my second run, which was successful. It does (or at least it did for me) force a very conservative style of play, which may or may not be to someone's taste. Every fight is begun with the thought, if this goes sideways, how do I get at least one party member to escape.
Optimizing builds and equipment is also much more important.
Whole point is to challenge yourself. If you don't enjoy challenge for the sake of challenge, then it's probably not for you. The golden dice do literally nothing new. They just look fancy.
^ Would not consider it just for a dice skin, and would definitely not recommend it if you're still a newbie and haven't at least beaten tactician.
It is not a real dice
If you do it because you want a challenge, and you enjoy losing a LOT hours of progress to silly mistakes, failed knowledge checks, or really bad streaks of luck then it's worth it. But for a dice skin? Hell no.
Also, honour mode on your first playthrough is going to be painful. There are a lot of fights that require strategies you need to know or have planned out in advance (or extreme luck), so going in blind means that you are all but guaranteed to have your run reset at least once on every major fight. We're talking hundreds of hours lost in total. So be sure you think that's fun before starting.
once you know how to play or have any experience in 5e ttrpg, honour mode is silly easy. even if you risk a party wipe, most times you can flee with a character, back to camp and ressurrect.
BUT bugs can happen to end a run, which is awful. or if you are still on a first run, a fight might surprise you, and you can't run away due to scenario reasons. To prep yourself for these two possiblities, turn off cloud saves, and at the end of each session backup your save directory. Now, if you ever experience a bug or surprise that ends your run, you can restore your game to the end of your last session. it's the perfect balance between honour mode and not losing all your progress over a stupid bug.
"It's the best way to play"**
**.....if you enjoy challenging yourself as much as possible.
If you're just chill and more interested in navigating through the story, extra challenge may not be your thing. Everyone's style is different and no one's is wrong.
Honor mode made every single mouseclick more meaningful for me. Just don't missclick, nothing worse dying to missclicks. Also being a worshipper of Loviathar is recomended, ask yourself "do i like pain?"
It is, single save file is now a toggle option in custom settings.
You need more than a game option to cure that.
Honor mode is fun and it's definitely worth it if you want challenge, It's not that hard, but the only save and being unable to reload makes it really fun. If you're only doing it for the dice, it might get very frustrating.
