I doubt it'll ever be changed considering, so you may as well make the change you were intending.
Except that's NOT how it works in 5e. The wording is the same, but in 5e, unarmed attacks are still considered "weapon attacks" for anything that would interact with those. This means that in 5e, your weaponless zombies still get the Aura of Hate buff.
The fact that it doesn't work that way in BG3 is purely an oversight from looking at 5e's wording without adapting it to Larian's internal systems.
That would be amusing news
