OP, obvious question: have you tried right-clicking?
Some more obvious hints that explain the lore a bit better for those new to the fictional world would help, but simply reading the note with someone who worships the enemy deity logically wouldn't work in the lore since it's a security measure. Be glad that S-heart didn't get injured just from reading it thanks to her personal story arc.
Oh, I knew Shadowheart as a worshiper of Shar couldn't read it. It's just that the reaction of the game gave the impression that the scroll was now identified, and that anyone in the party could now use it when opening the chest. So after failing the identifying roll with my main character while Shadowheart identified it as a scroll of Selune, I chose ANOTHER character than Shadowheart to open the chest while having the note in their inventory. You'd think an entire party has enough synergy to use items identified by other party members, especially since that is true for many other parts of the game, such as anyone can get successful checks on the Druid story pillars, and then another character can use that deciphered information to convince Kagha to not turn on the druid grove.
So basically: Sometimes it works like that and other times it doesn't :P
not once I thought tried make Shadowheart read it, so if you do she saying nothing? If she says nothing it's clearly a design polishing missing with an extra hint, otherwise it's a good trick design, and even more, let Shadowsheart make the prayer would have been a clear flaw.
No more, no less.
