What is weird is that I was able to use Bracers of Defense with the Helldusk Armor on my Sorcerer, so it's like...half considered being unarmored as well?
Probably some coding oddities. It might be labeled as 'clothing' in code despite being called heavy armor, which is how anyone is able to wear it.
Based on that, I'd guess that Rage checks for whether or not you're able to apply your Dex bonus since all heavy armor chest pieces prevent your Dex bonus from being added to AC, which is why Helldusk prevents raging.
Just a guess, though. I'm no coder.
That qualifier applies to the Rage benefits granted to all barbarians. It does not automatically apply to any additional Rage benefits granted by a subclass.
I used the armor a good chunk of the game because of the "bug" or "exploit" you can get it right when you travel to the mountain pass.
You're right. It doesn't keep you from raging, but you don't get most of the baseline benefits from entering it while in heavy armor.
My mistake.
