Result: Rescued the victim unharmed.
I took like 17 long rests after Gale got kidnapped on my Honour playthrough because I wanted to save Orin for the very end and he was completely fine and dandy.
There also seems to be a variety of claims in this regard, and at this point I'm leaning toward, "nope, that doesn't trigger a timer also".
With this playthrough, hmmm, the person that gets kidnapped will be out of use for a long time. Presuming I save Yenna, of Laez / Hals / Minth / Gale, I think Halsin being taken interrupts the least quest arcs, right? (Does he have an Act 3 quest arc to speak of?)

Gale literally has the most Act III impact in that you still have the option of having him fulfill Mystra's directive, but even that comes after dealing with Orin. Likewise, Lae'zel would appreciate it if you retrieve a certain artifact and use it to rescue a particualr NPC, but she doesn't need to be there for that heist; and if you go through with it and you do rescue her newfound hero, again this would be after dealing with Orin.
With you there, but I almost always bring people along for things non-mandatory quests they really care about.
