My use for them was to have several different saves to go to that I could level up quickly for whatever playthrough I felt like at the moment in the living room. I also used them for modding saves I played with my son while he was visiting so we could play through with both of our characters at higher levels.

It's a bit cumbersome, but depending on what you're trying to accomplish it is the only way I've found until mods are introduced to PS5. Judging by other games on PS5 (Fallout, Skyrim) it will only be a matter of time before they are available on the console. A short search on the googles will hint that it may be soon.
I hope this helps anyone else looking for this as I spent a fair amount of time finding this myself and several successful (and very unsuccessful) attempts to do this exact thing.
Larian stated that one of the challenges of releasing mod support is that theyre also developing a pipeline to get mods on console.
So eventually there will probably be something akin to a creation club for console, where highly favored or community voted mods will be offered on console. Or they might just have a much more variable version of the gift bag system from divinity.
