Did you even entered the underdark before mountain pass (and act 2)?
Do the Underdark?
Do Grymforge?
Except one can get to level 5 before going either there or the mountain pass.
After doing both basement and spider cave in Blighted Village, and dealing with entire goblin camp (only entering the underdark briefly only looting the Selunite outpost, no enemies in underdark fought yet), the gnolls and "Tyr" paladins on risen road, burning inn at Waukeen's Rest, and the Zentherum outpost, that should get you to or close to level 5 already. That is before even doing the hag, redcaps, and mud mehpits (at desecrated shrine) in the swamp.
If you do the underdark on top of that, you will be level 6 before the mountain pass. Even if you only do the first area of underdark (not the grymforge), that will still put you level 6 before you actually enter the creche (if you do eveything else in mountain pass and monastary).
All this then puts you on track to be well into level 7, before entering the shadowlands (ACT 2).
i didn't see anything anyone mentioned here except the spider cave (didn't clear it since theres a level 5 boss monster, assumed i was supposed to come back later)
Theres not even any towns just temporary camps, then after several hours of gameplay it just leaves you in an empty ass area wandering around with no direction on where to go... jeez.
Sorry you are having trouble finding the other areas. There are a number of entry points to the Underdark. Exploration is VERY important in BG3. This is not the type of game where one can mindlessly plow forward and succeed. It also pays to have a well balanced party so that hidden things can be revealed, or at least pointed out. :)
There's a bunch of different ways to get to it, but the most straightforward two are either through Priestess Gut's rooms, into the temple of Selune, and through, or where you fight the phase spiders under the Blighted Village-- go to the fight location, cast feather fall and jump into the chasm.
There are 4 ways into the underdark.
In the goblin camp, inside Gut's Sanctum is a path going thru a buried Selunite temple. Arrange the floor tiles properly or pick the lock on the pull chain to open the path to the Selunite outpost in the underdark.
In the Zentherum hideout, in the back behind a fake stone wall is an elevator, that can be used to enter the underdark.
In the Hag's lair is another illusionary wall which leads to a mushroom circle that take you down into the underdark.
And last but not least, in the Whispering Depths (where you fight the Spider Matriarch) under the blighted village is a hole you can jump into to reach the underdark (just be sure to use featherfall).
Those are the 4 ways I know of. I usually do the goblin camp route, as its not a large detour while dealing with the goblin camp, is a safe area (no underdark enemies to run into), and has a travel portal inside the Selunite outpost.
My guess is the OP has not yet even been through the Creche. Since is is not obvious how to get into it. :/
