- Can we also assume your game is mod free?
- Do you not have issues with games released in the past 2-3 years?
If so, generate a directdiags log and include it in your report to Larian Studios.
https://larian.com/support/faqs/how-to-submit-a-bug-report_85
Share your DxDiag report. Otherwise it will be always not enough details.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3018815871
After sharing your DxDiag report for analysis, prepare your game as instructed:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3018203217
do as written in the guide from top to bottom and make sure not to miss a single step - in addition to that
- deactivate Steam Cloud entirely for the game
- set graphics card to debug mode (Nvidia Control Panel Help tab)
- make sure graphics card is set to maximum performance and the correct graphics card is selected as described here section prepared graphics cards
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3016159305
- set global frame rate limit to 30 in the Nvidia Control Panel
- set compatibility mode for the game to Windows 8, take note to try launching the game as admin when you are being told so, AFTER the DxDiag report analysis
- use MSI Afterburner as instructed in the guide above; for the testing ramp up the fan speeds to maximum while playing
- after the Dxdiag report prepare to launch the game with Steam off; means exiting Steam first and launching the game via the executable; DO NOT USE THE LARIAN LAUNCHER
But first, let us see what your DxDiag report says ~
Yep all mod free and I have never had any issues with my PC running new titles for the last 4 years since I built it. I have sent a dxdiags log to Larian but not heard back yet... been a couple weeks :(
Regarding crashing when loading a saved game, it happens to me virtually every time I load the latest game. I am highly doubtful it's mod related.
This is what works for me. Try this when you attempt to load a saved game that's post-Nautiloid and you get a CTD:
1. First load a saved game in the same campaign from the Nautiloid. It loads successfully for me every time.
2. Then try and load the saved game that CTD'd. This works 99.9% of the time and the game loads successfully.
I have no idea why this works but it does. I've given up on Larian addressing it.
Thanks for your response. How do I share my dxdiag on this thread?
You can use a webhost service of your choice like MEGA, Dropbox, Google - pastebin.com will do as well
I've never had an issue loading a save. It'll load fine and then crash for some unknown reason 10, 15 sometimes even 20 minutes into me playing. Also using no mods.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/bq0fw0 - let me know if this works. thanks!
There seems to be some bad driver errors related to Razer and Corsair softwares.
Check if you are using any of the usual suspects and deactivate/delete them
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3123891527
Once done do as instructed above: exit Steam first via the menu and try launching the game via the launcher with debug mode for the graphics card, windows 8 compatibility and fan speed to maximum. Check if the issue persists.
Thanks for your reply. I have uninstalled my Razer software and realised my ICUE needed repairing so have done that (can delete if needed). I have enabled debug mode too. What do you mean by windows 8 compatability?
And re fan speed, am I alright doing that in MSIafterburner?
Yes, you can do that in MSI Afterburner. It is one very safe approach as it is limited to the app running.
The compatibility mode you can setup in with the executable's properties.
Right-click on the game in Steam Library -> Manage -> Browse Local Files -> bin folder -> right-click on bg3_dx11.exe -> Select properties -> compatibility mode Windows 8 -> confirm
Then you can use that executable to launch once everything else is set. Give it a try and let us know the result.
For good measures I strongly recommend you run CCleaner or anything like that to cleanup your registry. The amount of issues seemingly have accumulated according to your DxDiag could have allowed lots of bad working registry entries behind. But that is only if the issue with the game persists.
Hi there. It ended up crashing again launching from steam. Uninstalled Corsair ICUE to be safe and the same thing happened. I'm getting a different crash now. Whereas before it would come up saying "Program not responding", not it is just a freeze and I can exit via task manager.
Restart your PC and launch as instructed above without Steam.
You need to exit Steam properly first, otherwise we cannot proceed with outruling sources for the issue.
Sorry, how would you like me to launch it without steam? via the bg3_dx11 file ?
Yes.
Make sure to exit Steam first

You also checked the usual suspects, yes? No Sonic Studio, no Process Lasso etc.? Then try again using the bg3_dx11 file
