Why does Halsin leave the party if I go to try and finish the creche quest?

Is it possible to leave the shadowlands and go finish the creche quest then finish his quest or you can't and need to choose between Halsin and La'zael now technically?

Does he still leave permanently even if it is possible to finish his quest on coming back?

Should I try just to go through with it and see how it goes in hopes I can go to the creche without triggering La'zael to leave the party?

Creche without solving the conflict between goblins and druids means goblins kill everyone. Because Dror Ragzlin Is absolute and awesome and only main character can stop him otherwise he win the war by default, didn't you hear Volo 's song?

I went through the underdark pathway though, so I have skipped it and lazael in dialogue is saying she will leave the party if I don't go to the creche?

If you already went to last night inn, Halsin will go to the inn and talk to someone there to open his lift the shadowcurse quest, he will stay there until you finish his first quest to get something from nearby area(i won't say what to avoid spoilers). You can go to creche as long as you didn't go balls deep into ACT2 main quest which is rescue xxxxxxxxx(again, spoilers)from the shar's gauntlet. I went to inn, meet everyone, back to creche and finish the map, and went back to shadowland and continue halsin quest, it's fine. After his side quest finish he will re-join you as a party member for real.

And la'zael is just talking, you can still go back to creche finish her quest as long as you don't go too deep into act 2 main quest(point of no return, game will warn you that.)

If she's not already left the party, you should still be able to go back to the monastery trail via the mountain pass without entering the shadowlands - afterwards you can go back through the underdark passage and complete Halsin's quest without either of them leaving I would have thought.

What if I have already rescued them and I am up to the part where I need to kill ketheric thorm to finish it, but haven't done the creche yet? I mean Halsin is currently already in my party.

Would that be the point of no return and leads to Halsin leaving or not if I have left the shadowlands to finish the creche quest?

You can do the mountain pass up until you get to the point of no return in act 2. Doing the mountain pass has no negative consequences for act 2 quests. Halsin will simply chill out in the camp while you are in either act 1 area. He will rejoin afterwards (even if the journal says differently).

What is canon ending supposed to mean? Halsin and Minthara were developed later in development and were not accounted for for the act 1 areas. That's why they won't go there and remain in camp instead. They rejoin you with no negative consequences once you go back into the act 2 area. You can still finish Halsins quest to cure the Shadowcursed-lands if you do Lae'zels quest.

I usually do the Creche as a side trip during ACT II.
I never play with Halsin though, but he stays meekly at camp during the side-trip.
It doesn't matter if you've first saved the spirit of the land or not either.
