Hard for me to NOT be a Bard!
I chose Bard as my class for my first character and made it most of the way(?) through the game.
At least as far as the beginning of Act 3.
While I wasn't the most powerful character in the party in combat by a long shot, my main character was still integral to nearly every interaction OUT of combat, which I liked.

I decided that I wanted to start over again (may revisit my first character later), but this time experience the Dark Urge storyline.

I thought it would be fun to try a more close-ranged sort of character... but still wanted to play as a high Charisma sort for chatting.

Ended up leaning in the direction of a lightning Draconic Sorcerer.

My Bard was a Halfling with a -1.5m penalty to movement. So I made a Half Wood Elf for a +1.5 bonus.
The idea was that I'd rush ahead into melee range and zap everyone with Shocking Grasp.

But all of the classes (besides possibly Rogue) feel so basic and poorly defined in the early levels. I made it as far as Lv.3 before I copped out and respecced back to Bard... For now.

I was frustrated that I didn't have enough Proficiencies to shuffle around. I couldn't as easily pick all the locks or disarm all the traps.

I couldn't speak with animals (didn't have any potions on hand).

And the only thing that was making my Sorcerer feel somewhat unique, my offensive cantrips, were reliably dealing 1-2 damage.
Oof. :steammocking:

I'm still a mysterious amnesiac murderhobo. But I'm a Bard again.

Yay...? At least I chose a different school this time.
I'll not be going Swords bard with a pair of dual wielded hand crossbows. Lore this time. ;)

I also play as a Bard I am seeing myself as the supporter and tactian of the party. Which doesn't mean he needs to be the strongest. But he can support in many cases. He is the Jack of all Trades and Master of none.

In combat, my Bard is there to sing songs for his lover Bea'zel while she slaughters people with her greatsword and psyionic powers. He also throws out insults. I've kinda modelled him into a witty coward. Like a merge between book Dandilion and show Dandilion of the Witcher.

Have you tried Paladin? They may be the frontliner that you want, with the potential to rack up large amounts of damage. Also, due to their high Charisma, they also tend to act as the party's face, can get through many situations through dialogue, and have many unique dialogue options specific to them.

However, unless you multiclass, nothing will really give you the jack-of-all-trades feeling as Bard did.

yes that would be my second choice. I was tempted but I also love that as a Bard I simply can start playing with other Bards. Also I can make some cash haha

Is there a way to increase the effective radius of your performances?
I wandered around a bit in the Lower City but could never find a highly populated enough area to get that achievement for 100g in a single song.

Like not even close. I made like 11g once. ;)

I just modded Shadow into a bard 2 / Sorcerer (Divine) +. She works fine with high charisma, Bard skills, sorc skills, and because of the Divine subclass, turn undead and some cleric spell access. An Origin as my jack of all trades frees everyone else to have specializations.

there is no option to increase the radius. You simply need to perform as often to get 100 gold and the achivement should be complete. You can look into your steam game achivement section how much you still need. As for me I just made 34/100. So Í still need some time ^^

Oh, duhh.. I misread that.
In a single playthrough.
I saw 'in a single performance'. ;)

Bards in Bg3 are simply overpowered to such an extent, that if you do NOT multiclass Bard in any combo, you are at a loss.

The only combo that doesnt need a Bard is a Rogue Monk, when it comes to minmaxing.
