2. Her romance no longer requires the grove massacre, but you will miss the Act 1 scene that has become so ... known. I wouldn't say she is "broken" but I think they need to write more dialogue interactions for her, and particularly finish her romance. Bottom line, you CAN get her romance ending without the evil route, now.
Granted I wasn't trying to romance her, but I didn't notice any broken dialogue. She reacted to plot points being revealed, had opinions on things, I could ask her questions about herself. The normal stuff.
This is my 2nd play through, so doing things with a Minthara spin has been a nice little twist in various dialogue options (going the extra evil rout, and encouraging all my comrades to go evil too, which will probably have disastrous consequences for a couple of them).
With Minthara, it is pretty slow building up her approval rating.... so I'm not sure how far you can go with her if you don't stay focused on doing bad guy things.
If you're having doubts about what direction to go in; consider the path less traveled. It can be fun, and has less tieflings.
It's only impossible to romance her if you think "romance" = "sex".
As far as her being broken.... This route of recruiting her is a bug that they've decided to make legitimate. I'm guessing it'll be better integrated in the future, but until Patch 5, this recruitment method WAS Minthara being "broken".
No, that's not the case whatsoever that "romance" = "sex", and nothing more, when it comes to Minthara. But you'd have to play into the evil side of a Dark Urge play through to understand where a Minthara romance can lead, or you simply wouldn't understand. There's barely any sex at all, and quite a bit of sharing of life goals between the two. Heck, she wouldn't even join me with the Drow brother and sister duo in Rivington. She's kind of a prude...
My first run was a Neutral Good style character who ended up leaving the Tiefling vs. Goblin plot unresolved due to not wanting to take lives unnecessarily. Anyway, I had Minthara, and by the end of the game her approval was just barely shy of max. She approves of plenty of good things. But she's definitely a slow gain - I had her in my party constantly from the time I recruited her right before Act 2's final dungeon and all of Act 3 to pull it off, and I did need to keep her at a slight distance for a few choices she disapproved of.
Getting her earlier in Act 2 than I did will probably allow you to reach max approval for her without metagaming at all like I had to do.
Thanks, that's interesting to know, and shows the flexibility of this game. I did not pick up Minthara in my first play through. I did a Dark Urge on the path to redemption play through my first time around, and Minthara was left as a dead husk on the ground :)
On my 2nd play through, I'm Dark Urge again, though about as evil as the game allows you to go. I'm at max approval with Minthara right now, but around the end of Act 2, I was just barely above half way. On this evil play through, her approval just sky rocketed very early in Act 3, especially when talking about future world dominating plans, learning the details of my Durgness, and so on. She seems to love the whole Durge thing. At this point, I'm just getting ready to go into the Lower City, so have the rest of Act 3 ahead of me.
So her approval definitely is much easier to grow doing a straight up evil play through; especially as Dark Urge.
Yea I was so disheartened when I realized it was bugged, and I didn't want to lose all the progress. I have done shadow/tav, karlach/tav, shadow/laezel, and then was trying good dark urge/minthy. I really just wanted to uninstall the game lmao when she didn't respond during drow twin...super thankful for reddit stuff.
Can you please link the Reddit post you mentioned 🙏🏻 I have a similar issue. Plus this will help anyone that will stumble opone this bug in the future, whoever will read this steam general discussion )
There are some instructions you have to follow but this was it.

I love that we can kiss but we haven't had a meaningful conversation (conquering the world together, etc) in a while, and haven't had seggs since the 'scene' post grove. So I'm just a bit disappointed that it's not going past kissing (whether it's dialogue or intimacy). Maybe I need to get to killing Gortash and/or Orin to step up the story (I'm faffing around with optional Q's).
