Free Orpheus? *Spoilers*
Should I free him or not? What happens if I do or don't? Would you guys recommend I free him?

You can find out what happens by googling it. If you just want a recommendation then don't free him.

Yes. Squidward will defect to the big brain because....ego?

Then you have a choice, somebody has to go full squid though. Either your dude, Karlach or Orphy himself.

You go with Squidward and Orpheus gets extra space in his cranium, the Gith are less than happy and you go forward that way.

Just because the guy above said 'Don't free him', I say 'Do it'

The decision belongs to your character. What does their gut tell them?

Yes, you should.

Seems like if I free him, one of my group turns into a mind flayer. So I shouldn't free him.

I chose to free him as I thought the Gith need a better leader. The Emperor defects and sides with the elderbrain which I am fine with as I really wanted to kill him as I was so sick of him trying to manipulate and control what I do all the time.
Karlach was happy enough to become a illithid as she is going to die anyway and she becomes a hero and honored among the gith as well and she seems very happy that she gets to live and doesn't have to go back to the hells.
Karlach seems happy in the epilogue and she doesn't die.

Not necessarily.

Let's put it that way. There is no bad choice here. In both cases you have options... for a price. Question is: whom do you trust? What do you think about the githiyanki? Lae'zel... your Guardian, Voss, Raphael...

But again, that choice alone would not doom your character or any of the party.

So who turns into mind flayers if I free Orpheus?

If you free Orpheus, all that happens is this:

You still need someone to be a mindflayer - your choice of who.

Orpheus joins you and is stronger than the emperor - he has invulnerability to cast with Ki points, which is OP.

You have to kill the emperor during the nether brian fight.

But if I free Orpheus the game ends prematurely. And what does invulnerability to cast with Ki points mean? Also could I choose Lae zel to be the mind flayer? I don't really use her.

Yeah just save the release of orpheus until you have all 3 nether stones and the emperor is ready to fight the brain - if that's what you want to do.

And I mean to say that Orpheus can cast the level 6 invulnerability dome with just 4 Ki points, which means 3 casts / short rest. He's broken.

I haven't tried making Laezel become a mindflayer, but I'm pretty sure you could.

So Orpheus is OP? Maybe I should free him then.

And what does collecting three netherstones do again? I forgot.

I saw some where if I don't free Orpheus, then I lose a character. Does that mean I'm gonna lose Orpheus as part of my party, or is it someone else?

Also, when I choose someone to become a Mind Flayer, do I still keep the character which turned into, or that character goes away as a Mind Flayer forever?

I've decided to free Orpheus because I want the help beating Netherbrain.
Ravenfeathers Jan 13, 2024 @ 3:19pm
The netherstones are meant to be able to dominate the elderbrain. But when you try to you are not able to hence why you need a mindflayer to as only they can. If you don't free Orpheus the emperor eats his brain. And yes you are able to keep and control whoever becomes a mindflayer.
