I think The Guardian was supposed to be reflective of the tadpole trying to entice the character into acting illithid powers and eventually letting go of control.
They changed it to be more a red herring imo.
Just one of several poor decisions Swen made before launch.
Then again - it seems like this game is set on tricking player into stuff (s)he didn't bargain for.. at least when it comes to "romance".
Customizing your "Guardian" is just you working on crafting your own illusion that Emperor is using to fool you. Emperor CAN assume this form for, uhhh, intimacy, but that disgusts me regardless of which form he is wearing.
Once I knew this, I never again spend a moment on it.
