What good is the Guardian? Without spoiling anything, what was the point of making him or her in the character creation?

I believe The Guardian plotline was heavily altered at some point during development, the approach they took with them in the Alpha/Beta versions was completely different and more Romantic.

I prefer the old version imo.

I think The Guardian was supposed to be reflective of the tadpole trying to entice the character into acting illithid powers and eventually letting go of control.

They changed it to be more a red herring imo.
They changed it because now there's zero repercussions to using Illithid powers.

Just one of several poor decisions Swen made before launch.

The "guardian" is a "magic trick" of such huge proportions that Gale's attempt at a similar stuff looks like a sad fart into a poodle.

Then again - it seems like this game is set on tricking player into stuff (s)he didn't bargain for.. at least when it comes to "romance".

You will learn by your 2nd playthrough if not from here or other sources ...

Customizing your "Guardian" is just you working on crafting your own illusion that Emperor is using to fool you. Emperor CAN assume this form for, uhhh, intimacy, but that disgusts me regardless of which form he is wearing.

Once I knew this, I never again spend a moment on it.
