Act 3 opening fight... Um..
I was doing find in this game until the start of Act 3.

A challenge sometimes but always able to come out on top.

But the very start of Act 3 throws you into a fight WAY WAY more powerful than anything before. One of my guys went down without even acting at all and the rest followed very quickly.

How do you do this? Is there some secret I'm not seeing?

Let me guess...you didn't see the notification on the right side of your screen nor the warnings from the Emperor to get to the portal asap and decided to fight the githyanki at the camp.

Here's a hint that does admittedly ruin a lot of the panic. You just need one party member to get there and interact with the portal to get everyone through

Basically, as stated above:

You don't need to kill the Githyanki. between you and the portal. Heck you don't even need to touch them. As was just said, you only need 1 person (not even necessarily Tav) get to the portal in 3 turns and go through.

Don't feel bad. I borked this on my 1st playthrough too.

I recommend to Enhanced Leap to the portal, sneak to the giant skull without entering it, then to use summons to deal with the githyanki there while they are hitting (and missing) the intellect devourers. Jaheira's dryad is the best for it.

Unless it has been patched out. The encounter is unavoidable and feels odd in the context of the majority (excluding Ketheric Thorm) of the previous battles to be possible to resolve with dialogue skill checks. Then again, it gets worse in Act 3, where most quests just as unavoidably end in combat.

No one is perfect. I deleted myself within the first 10 minutes of play when I accidentally shot a Nautiloid Tank from point-blank range. Sh!t, I suck.

Never died here though. C'mon, 3 turns is an eternity.

Yup. That was it. :) Thanks. I thought I had to get all 4 there, but you only need one. So I just misty stepped it and done. And the dead Gale came along to the next level and I was able to ressurect him.

Yeah. This is a callback to the tutorial where only one person needs to reach the helm. There will be another situation for this in the main story, but there is a different complication than a timer.

Weird. I always thought of that fight as an XP snack before the main dish and usually it was them who didn't get to have their turn before becoming floating XP numbers over the heads of the party.

Different team builds I suppose. I found the next fights trivial in comparison.
