I can't give the Githyanki Egg to Esther?
I have the egg in my inventory but when I begin dialogue the only options are:
1. I'm working on it.
2. I want to trade.
3. Leave

I've tried reloading saves, giving the egg to a different party member, nothing works. For some reason the game seems to think I don't have the egg when I do? Is it a common problem?

A common mod problem.

Known quest item bug in Hotfix 16.

Two mods have been identified as causing the problem:
BG3 Mod Fixer
Party limit begone -- Legacy version

Start by disabling those.

1. Keep it.
2. Just BEFORE the last battle give the egg to Lae'zel
3. I heard there's a nice end game scene where Lae´zel's motherly instincts will be triggered by the egg and she and you will raise the Baby Githyanki together. You'll have to be in a relationship with Lae'zel at the point for that to happen, though.

I think this is one of the precious FEW good endings this game can have. Any other option for the egg, particularly if you give it to Esther, will end badly...

I removed the mod fixer from the load order and that's fixed it. Thank you!

You are welcome but i have no idea why that thing is called the Mod "Fixer" when all it appears to do is cause problems. It also causes problems with the Epilogue and MAY be causing others.

Maybe because it originally fixed mods. Especially for older mods. Every update could mean that a mod will not work anymore.

It is better never making an update during a playthrough if you are using mods.
