Why is Astarion unbearable?

I personally despise Astarion. His personality really doesn’t appeal to me. However, that’s not the only issue; he is a character who is difficult to please. Among all the companions, the relationship between my protagonist and him is the only neutral one. I have made friends with everyone else, except for him.

IDK he's the only guy who hasn't tried to be gay with me, despite having the most flamboyant voice. Best bro tbh. Wyll and gale both wanted to dance with me / show me their wand when all I wanted was to long rest to recharge spells.

Dunno how far you are in the game but Astarions Arc is one of the more better written one - if you a) romanced him, which you obviously didnt b) hit a certain key-event in Act 2. After that he became one of my more favourit characters - his voice actor is amazing tho.

hes utterly insufferable. His story lines fine but after I solved the first thing I did on my second play through was beat him to death with a stick and throw his corpse from a cliff.

Highlt subjective. Clearly Astarion is one of the mnost liked characters in this game for good reasons.

Part of his personality is actually a defense mechanism due to his trauma. He has one of the best if not the best story lines from the companions. But you do you.

I've had some of the girls do the same to me ... and I'm gay. You find a way to turn them down but still say "We can be friends, I don't like you 'that' way..."

And I think all the companions are bi in here... unless there's an exclusively gay or straight character in here?

True. Add to this the fact he really doesn't know why he's been chosen by Cazador, and (as I've read on Reddit) he seems to had been almost a child within elven life longitude before turning.
So we've got an abused child who has stood in the corner for two hundred years for no obvious mischief, and then released at once and given a truck of toys and sweets, metaphorically saying. He just enjoys the freedom while getting ready to cast revenge on whoever gets in his way.
