Is it better to kill Balthazar when we meet him immediately or...
Kill him when we free Nightsong?

Killing him right away is significantly easier, that's for sure.

Kill him when you free nightsong. drink a cloud hill giant potion or just a hill giant potion (if you can get your hands on it), sneak up on him and then throw him over the cliff lol. Skips the whole bossfight

Monk class is so much fun

you miss a little bit of conversation but functionally it doesn't matter now or later, earlier, as said, is easier however.

Can throw at the 2nd time you meet him, better yet you can use knock on his door, which causes him to come out and die to the first enemy counter while you go off and grab a snack.

Can also just not jump down, as then enemies take about 10 turns to get to you and nuke him from orbit

Depends of what kind of fight you want. I never lose killing him immediately (after trading), but the battle in the Shadowfell is tougher challenge with those greater skeletons pushing companions to their deaths.

Killing him early is very easy but do it after he gives you the speed potion. Make sure everyone is hitting him specifically as hard as possible. Once dies most of the enemies also die along with him.

I kill him and the entire family in every play-through. Though to be fair, I always get the other members of the family to basically kill themselves. Saving me having to fight them. I don't think there's a way to get him to kill himself like you can with the others.

The ones you encounter in the tavern, the toll road, and the house of healing? Ketheric Thorms' family?

Balthazar has potion reagents for trading. If you've got a transmuter wizard in the party, these things are valuable.

In his little lair earlier on. Here's a guide.

Step 1: Steal his mom-in-a-jar.
Step 2: Let him know in conversation that you have his mom.
Step 3: Refuse to elaborate.
Step 4: Kill him and keep his mom.

With one give more XP?

Disciple Z'rell does not care about him. It will not affect the attitude of the cultists.

What character do you play? Is it one who stands on his word or an opportunist? How much do you hate Balthazar? Do you think he will be a liability after you leave the Gauntlet of Shar.

This is as much as your decision as much an roleplay choice.

P.S. No idea if there is an XP difference.

P.S. 2 I don't think Balthazar was of the Thorm family. But it was probably him who raised and converted Ketheric Thorm to his new faith.
