16 Cha on Half Elf means 14 Dex *or* 14 Str *or* 14 Cons, but one of them going to be 10 and that's probably Cons.
You'd want Str min 16, 14 is fine but you gotta have to beelinining your way into goblin camp and get loviatar blessing.
14 Dex is good, especially with shield (+2 AC), but if you want to play risky game, like I did, dump Dex to 10, shield is a must, and speed run your way to goblin camp to get 16 AC Heavy Armor from Zent vendor (18 AC + 2 Shield of Faith = 20).
If conclusion, if I want to enjoy the game:
16 Str, 14 Dex, race human because all +1.
If I want to baller gaming:
16 Str, 10 Dex, dump points to Wis or Cons or Cha.
Human is recommended, because it's easier to get 16 Str, 14 Dex, 14 Cons. Half Elf 16 Str, 14 Dex, 12 Cons. Both 14 Charisma.
Weapon of Choice: Light of Creation for Maximum Damage.
Defensive (for that 2 fight against Gith and Nere ambush): Faithbreaker + Shield/Shield +1
Armor: Gith Armor *or* Dark Justiciar Armor (looks cooler with Light of Creation)
Str 16, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 16
Shield Master at lvl 4
Longsword (Phalar Aluve), Shield (there's a +1 shield somewhere in Grymforge), Splint Mail +1
Cast Bless in battle (use the sword of Tyr if you want to save a spell slot)
alternatively, basing a paladin off of Thor is a pretty fun concept that gets done a lot, i mean thats what Diablo did lol.
but i guess as far as bg3 goes, you'll definitely want to make sure you're nullifying critical hits, because obviously. and if you can grab shield spell that would be great too. Because with +1 plate, +1 shield, defensive fighting style, shield of faith, and the shield spell reaction, you'll be at an absolutely insane 30 AC, of course thats not possible until +1 plate is released, unless i just never found it.
1) Get max of str
2) Imo in EA charisma is a dump stat, while you won't need high DC.
Dialogue skills could be passed with guidance or/and enhance ability, maybe bard. Also there are not much high Cha skillchecs.
Who cares how charismatic is Oathbreaker? :)
3) CON would be great for concentration (due to concentration feat lack) and survivability.
You will need concentration on shield / heroism / bless spells.
Also might be taken in consideration Great Weapon Mastery @lvl4 and going 2-handed heavy dd due to quite easy fights. If you could get you pally advantage on attacks it will highly raise your ctitical chance and land heavy hits through GWM penalty.
Justice delivery in few swings :D
As for race in this case go for str/con.
Everburn Blade (iconic) / earthbreaker as main weapon.
