How polished is the game?
This is not a flame question. I might have been misled so this is why I am asking. But I saw a lot of complaints about Act 3 on release. And seeing how they are still releasing patches and things, I was wondering if the game is complete, and the bugs are ironed out (as much as they could be with titles this big).

Act 3 is my favorite act and the game runs and plays great for me. I don't mod the game and I have seen some folks have difficulty when they run unsupported mods.

Act 1 is very polished. No bugs that I noticed, act 2 is polished. Only a couple minor bugs, nothing game breaking, act 3 is semi-polished. Some minor and major bugs ranging from annoying to needing to reload your last save. This is my experience after 140 hours.

It genuinely seems to depend on who you ask.
I've personally never had any serious problems with bugs- I've finished the game twice and am working on a third save, and I've never had a soft lock or game-breaking bug. One or two CTDs, but that's in the course of hundreds of hours of play.
There are a bunch of people who seem to have a much worse time with bugs, though, and I don't see why people would lie about it, so it does seem to be more buggy or unstable for at least some people.

As for complete, that's a pretty subjective question. The story is complete and has a conclusion, as do all the major plotlines I can think of. There was some significant cut content, like there is in any game this size, and I personally found the resolution of one or two storylines disappointing, but not enough to stop me immensely enjoying the game.

larians tends to release a "definitive" version of their games when they are done with the game, so its being polished

Do you think we will see that even for BG3 after their comments and position on moving on from the game?

I'd be very surprised if their full team worked on the DOS2 definitive edition. I'm to lazy to look it up, but common in the industry is that a small team works on a definitive edition/GOTY edition etc, while the majority of the team already moved on to the next project.

Makes sense. Thank you for your take.

It is not complete. Its just that hype thing by fans. It was released in same state as most others AAA games nowadays: there is no effort, purpose or profit to release complete and polished game. Get army of fans is way more important than do thing right. BG3 is not first and not last one. If Starfield had better story (or at least have a story written by actual writer not just slob working for food) I bet it had same 'overwhelming positive' (or 'very positive' cuz starfield lacking of predcessors (fallout do not count, lel))
p.s. do you want a 'complete'? mind to wait? wait 'definitive edition' smth. no joking. but remember to have at least 2-3 years of wait.

Yeah, sorry, I'm not buying the hype argument.
You don't sell more then quadruple the copies compared to your previous game on hype alone...

I played it on launch but bounced off it, I have started playing it again with my wife and it feels like they tidied up a lot of things and minor bugs that made 1.0 feel like another EA patch. It's still not finished in the way that they're adding evil endings in the next patch which is obviously supposed to have been on launch because wtf people are going to play evil characters OBVIOUSLY so they should have had endings. At that patch it will probably be complete in my eyes.

While I would agree it's also unfair to believe that hype wasn't a factor. They took rules well established by a popular (and made even far more popular by Covid and social media) table top game and then took an existing IP to make said game.... so yeah...

Oh, obviously hype was some factor, as with every highly anticipated game, I'm not denying that. I just don't buy the argument that hype was the only factor. I don't even think it was the biggest factor for the success, but with that we'd be drifting off in highly speculative and opinion based arguments that ultimately would lead nowhere, and I don't feel like going there atm ;P
