Origin characters

So I've just realised you can play as one of the origin characters.

Somehow I thought their portraits in the character screen were only there to introduce them a bit, haha, never knew you could actually play AS one of them.

I wonder, what happens if I play as, say, Gale? Will his main background quest be unavailable in the game?

its like dos2 . you will experience the story and the inner thoughts of the origin character rather than being a spectator to his quest

Does it also mean you start in a different area if you play as Gale and play through the start of how he got stuck in a rock?

I imagine it would be even more freshed out, with private insights that you wouldn't have access to, playing as someone else.
At least that's my experience from playing multiplayer with an origin character.

You get some Unique Scenes when playing as an Origin Character. Not gonna spoil anything.
Can't say what will happen with every Character and sure, the main campaign will be the main campaign. But it is quite nice. Currently playing as Wyll and i did some progress as Gale. Both pretty interesting.

No. everyone starts at the Nautiloid when you play Origin characters.
Those scattered around starts are just for NPC's. To make an interesting Start for them and not to start with 5 companions in the tutorial.

You play through their story yourself as a silent protagonist. Kinda boring in that regard, but you get some things you would only see when you play as them. Like with Gale you get to interact with his tressym familiar.

I'd have loved to have the origins not be silent all the time but I guess it would require a lot more work. Alas, playing as Karlach has been a blast so far.

You get some special lines/monologues, it's nice.

the only difference I noted is that lazel gets a 2nd gith buddy to replace herself on the ship startup. I do not know if SH gets someone extra when you play her, haven't done her story yet. The extra NPC is plotkilled so you can't keep in party.
