Does trusting Shadowheart and not interfering always lead to her sparing *spoiler*?
Nightsong of course.

Or is it cause I have been doing a pure good playthrough where I purged the devils from the grove and sided with the Harpers against the disgusting cult of the Absolute?

I think so, I've not tested it. But my reasoning is that right at the end when Nightsong mentions the wolves you immediately see her miss a beat. No one knows of this except maybe you (if you have seen her be afraid of wolves before and she has told you what it means) and her.

Yeah I noted it already in the druid's grove that she was scared of wolves. Although I personally think it was not that which swayed her but rather that she was just LARPing as a follower of an evil god, but was really good at heart throughout.

If this is a consistent outcome I think people who categorize her as being of neutral allignment are wrong. Seems more like a Neutral Good character with some weird dogma to me.

No. In my good playthrough she chose to spare Nightsong. In my evil she just ran her through with a spear.

Weird. I wonder what is the factor that decides her actions here. I mean in my playthrough I sided with goblins in act 1 and with Harpers in act 2.

Most likely it depends on how you interact with her and the world. There must be some hidden counter that tips the balance towards good or evil for her.
So you most likely was not evil enough. I must add, that i was not a chaotic murderhobbo. I was not romancing her in my evil playthrough too. So it also might factor in.

Yeah, I know most consider it evil to side with goblins, but I just did so because I did not want to help devilspawn, otherwise my character has been acting purely good all the time. Being a murderhobo probably does not influence anything though as it has no effect on companion approval ratings.

Could be the approval rating? My approval rating with Shadowheart has been 100 since middle of Act 1. And yeah I did go on that date on the cliffs with her.

Nope. I always let her choose and only 1 out of 4 did she spare her. The other 3 she went for the kill. Only one of the times she did the killin' was I playing evil, the other 2 good. The only one she spared her was the one where I kept her in my party during the first Act and built up a relationship. So that's probably the trigger.

Well, her aproval was not 100, but it was close.

The main weakness of shadowheart is that she doesn't know who she is, it's directly mentioned if you go on a druidic journey with her in circus.
So when someone turns out to know something about her and that they can tell her something about her, it's of great importance.

No. I'm my 2nd playthrough she killed Nightsong when I didn't interfere.

Yeah, that seems the common denominator so far. Curious if anyone has the opposite experience

Yeah that pretty much describes her character, though judging by the answers I am getting it seems that is not what tipped the scales
