Need some advice with modding
I use Vortex Mod Manager (because it supports BG3 now), and i've been playing this game modded for a long time. Everything was working fine and i solved all other problems regarding modding by myself with help from the internet.

Starting today, my BG3 will no longer recognize most of my mods even though i have them properly installed and updated.

I have noticed that my mods are now being "deployed" to a new location instead of in my game directory, which i assume(?) is the problem. I might just be misremembering.

It is no longer going into my \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3,
but now some of them are \Users\***\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods.

I have found absolutely no ways of changing my deployment path in the settings of Vortex so i have no ideas how to fix this problem. There is no "Base Path' in settings either so it will not allow me to alter the location in any way. Changing the "Mod Staging Folder" also doesn't help.

Any advice would be very kind and helpful. Thank you.

I noticed the only mods that work are Replacers and Engine Injectors.

Other mods with no specified functions are the ones that started to go missing. And they are the ones going to the different path.

Trust me, do NOT use Vortex for modding BG3. Many mods don't support it and if they do, it's buggy as all hell. The Mod Manager is much better as it also lets you install the Script Extender (also needed for most mods) directly from the manager. As for actually importing mods, it's piss easy; open BG3MM, go to File > Import, you can highlight ALL (.zip) files and it will automatically unpack them, just highlight them all in the MM on the right side, drag to the left side then find and click "Save Load Order to File" and then "Export Order To Game."

Easy peasy.

My recommended mod;
UnlockLevelCurve
5e Spells
DyeDyeDye
Unlimited Dye
Better Containers
Bag of Holding

The load order for those is bottom to top, I just listed them backwards because I'm a fool.

Yeah honestly. I've been running into really stupid problems with Vortex. I don't even know how these problems even exist. Sometimes they lock my load from manual sorting and then randomize them lol.

Anyway, i should look into BG3MM. I'm just scared that my save file won't be compatible for some reason if i switch. But thanks for the advice.

If you can quite honestly Join the discord! I can link it if you need but alot if people are really helpful and helped me with my modding issues as well, but if your worried about your saves you can back them up. But I’d recommend the switch to bg3mm I’ve heard nothing but issues from vortex and bg3mm has a very simple set up and ui.

Mod Manager, eh? Have to try that out... thanks for the tip! I can't get any mods to work with Vortex, either. I really just want the Native Camera Tweaks and Customizer.

My advice: Don't!

At least not until Modding is officially supported by Larian and Steam.

Never had any issues with Vortex. You just need to know what you're doing. OP - you're not telling something (or something happened automatically that you don't know).

Rules of modding:

-- Disable game automatic updates
-- Disable tools automatic updates (first and foremost = mod managers)
-- Don't do something you are not sure the result of
-- Back up before doing anything you are not sure about
-- Avoid installing stuff outside of mod manager unless you really know what you're doing

Following these simple rules I never had any issues with it. There is no such thing as "it somehow broke on its own".

Yeah sure! Shoot me that discord link. I'd rather spend time working on getting BG3MM to work than fixing one Vortex problem out of ten. I may be stubborn, but not dumb. :slimehappy:

So .. you did update some stuff. No. Not first timer. Long time modder (as a user and as an author).

Yes i updated one mod like i usually update 1-2 mods a day for the past month. If one mod broke my entire mod directory and caused half my mods to disappear then i'd be surprised.

But an elementary problem like this surely wouldn't be hard to fix as a long time modder, user and author such as yourself.

And no. it wasn't a genital mod. Pretty sure i updated WASD Character movement mod. Which is one of the mods that work because its an Engine Injector mod. And that was yesterday. Today my vortex broke.

Its been said countless times by modders but I guess I will restate it. DONT USE VORTEX.

I've been using Vortex for a while and have had no problems. Granted I'm not using many mods so that may be a factor.
