I'm playing a Necromancer and asked him if he could/would teach me his magic. He said he might teach a friend, but after I did what he wanted, he just gave me some money, the gloves, and went away. Is it not possible to learn any magic from him?

If you ask him about it then he says its a deeply protected secret... so no, no magic from him. (Probably, there might be still some combination of quest, class and race, like if you are a paladin of morgul and read the book of thay you get an additional dialogue (you can be a paladin of x if you are multiclassed paladin and cleric))

Well, since he said he might teach a friend, I just kinda assumed he'd teach me if I did his quest and was a Wizard (the request had a Wizard tag).
