Awful Endings
Spoilers ahead, don't read on unless you've finished the game.

Really disappointed with the endings. Kill Orpheus or turn him into a mindflayer condemning his entire race to remain under Vlaakith. Or make yourself or Karlach a mindflayer.

What is Larians obsession. "If you won't play as a soul less mindflayer we'll condemn an entire race."

They really should have looked at BG1 and BG2, two of the most successful RPGs of their era, they managed to let you win and not go "well we're gonna rain on your parade and make your win suck!"

Loved the entire game up until that stupid decision free Orpheus, destroy Orpheus, or turn yourself or Karlach into a mindflayer. What an absolute crap set of choices. Ruined the game for me. 221 hours, literally doing everything I could find, exploring everywhere and enjoying it all so much just to get a big middle finger at the end.

You're right.

Take one for the team and join club mind flayer. I see it only as a question of time with all the tadpoles I was going all gollum on.

This is the most ridiculous ending I have ever seen in an rpg game
"I'm out of here, have a nice day".

Honestly this is a hard agree from me. The whole "Well SOMEONE has to be you cant POSSIBLY beat the boss otherwise" when we literally have divine beings and demigods on our side just felt empty. You should have had the choice at the start of act 3 to side with Orpheus and his honour guard and free him and from there if you need the hammer, well guess you gotta figure out a way to get it. But this whole "You have to be an illthid" just strikes me as bad writing. Completely disregarding choices players made for a forced ending just so they didn't have to think of other options feels rushed and halfassed.

Hell if anything it should have been Orpheus as the Guardian, not the Emperor.

Vlaakith imprisoned Orpheus long ago, and the Emperor took advantage of his impaired state. Orpheus is nothing but a tool to be used.

I don't really care about the frogs. The Githyanki are evil ♥♥♥♥♥ (which has nothing to do with Queen toadie) put in the game because WotC really wants people to like them while leaving out the Githzerai.

Honestly, would have been a harder choice had it been literally any other race.

Thus I do not feel bad that the fictional race of fascist slavers is doomed.

its about balduran aka the emporer. they want u to understand the sacrifice he made for his city. so u have the different sides for understanding how it comes to the way of a special mindflyer. overall i wish for ending like pathinfer wrath of the rightous but well we cant have everything. pathfinder was more awful in storyprogress and boring fights but better ending and bg3 is opposite.

If you want to hyper fixate on the last two minutes of the game then sure, it was a terrible awful ending.

If you turn into a mindflayer Orpheus doesn't die? I thought whoever turned into a mindflayer ate his brain to gain his resistance which was the entire point so he died regardless. Either way yeah not a fan.

I love the hell out of the game, best thing I've played in 20 years since BG2. Having said that I was also left with a bit of disapointment when faced with that choice. Why not let us keep playing as normal. It could be something as simple as letting us use some magic item or even a spell to manipulate/charm an illithid to use the stones in our benefit.
2 things I've always hated in D&D lore loth worshipers and Illithids and to force me to use/become 1 is super annoying

Hate illithids. D&D's most boring antagonists.

The mind flayer decision is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid as hell.

I'm not necessarily against a forced choice/sacrifice, but the way Larian handled it was just so, so bad.

There's zero explanation as to why ANY of the other tadpoled characters cannot become a mind flayer. Somehow, your PC is just 'extra' special. Ok...fine, I guess. BUT WAIT! It turns out Karlach is also extra special!

Oh, I guess Orpheus can do it even though he doesn't have a tadpole at all - unless I missed something.

I would have much preferred having a discussion with your people. See how they feel about it. Some (Wyll) should have had no objections to doing it. Others may or may not volunteer depending on how their stories end up.

Check out this game that has a huge amount of choice and consequences. Oh btw, we're taking it away from you on one of the most crucial choices, kkthxbai.

What I'm trying to say here is I want a Minsc Mindflayer, because he would have completely destroyed the Netherbrain with his...no doubt unique approach.

This playthrough im currently in um convincing 2 3 characters in my party to accept the tadpole (but not give them any) and see if they volunteer when the time comes, since in my other 2 playthroughs I rejected the notion completely.

I don't find mindflayers or githyanki interesting enough to hinge the entire endgame on. This is supposed to be a Baldur's Gate game, not one alien race (githyanki) vs another alien race (mindflayers).

I gotta agree, the endings are all unsatisfying and also certain companion endings as well.
