"I'm out of here, have a nice day".
Hell if anything it should have been Orpheus as the Guardian, not the Emperor.
Honestly, would have been a harder choice had it been literally any other race.
Thus I do not feel bad that the fictional race of fascist slavers is doomed.
its about balduran aka the emporer. they want u to understand the sacrifice he made for his city. so u have the different sides for understanding how it comes to the way of a special mindflyer. overall i wish for ending like pathinfer wrath of the rightous but well we cant have everything. pathfinder was more awful in storyprogress and boring fights but better ending and bg3 is opposite.
2 things I've always hated in D&D lore loth worshipers and Illithids and to force me to use/become 1 is super annoying
I'm not necessarily against a forced choice/sacrifice, but the way Larian handled it was just so, so bad.
There's zero explanation as to why ANY of the other tadpoled characters cannot become a mind flayer. Somehow, your PC is just 'extra' special. Ok...fine, I guess. BUT WAIT! It turns out Karlach is also extra special!
Oh, I guess Orpheus can do it even though he doesn't have a tadpole at all - unless I missed something.
I would have much preferred having a discussion with your people. See how they feel about it. Some (Wyll) should have had no objections to doing it. Others may or may not volunteer depending on how their stories end up.
Check out this game that has a huge amount of choice and consequences. Oh btw, we're taking it away from you on one of the most crucial choices, kkthxbai.
What I'm trying to say here is I want a Minsc Mindflayer, because he would have completely destroyed the Netherbrain with his...no doubt unique approach.
I don't find mindflayers or githyanki interesting enough to hinge the entire endgame on. This is supposed to be a Baldur's Gate game, not one alien race (githyanki) vs another alien race (mindflayers).
