I think that shadowheart's dialogue of ''get behind cover'' needs fixing in a patch in that case.
Lae'zel with haste and action surge should give you a round with 9 attacks. Assuming she can hit for around 30, that should take a big chunk of that health bar.
One cheese tactic I used (because I was underleveled and was doing him with stronger bosses mod & legendary actions) was to have your characters run out of the room back to where you came from except for your toughest melee character. That way you can make only 1 character get hit by his blast.
Otherwise, you can just dps ( and burst when needed ).
Be also careful with their reaction trying not to shot the whole party, an get rid of adds asap.
Up until then you can get away with carrying one or even two characters who really aren't contributing much DPS.
With Ansur though you want to dump a lot of damage on him quickly and some parties just aren't set up for that.
Classes and builds that can do lots of attacks and high damage for each of those is what you are aiming for. Getting Haste on each or most of the your party members before the fight is one way to help too.
Oh, for the record to anyone reading this post: The "Crystals don't grant cover" thing was patched out. You should be able to hide from Ansur's nova from behind them now. I've done that 3 times up to this point and the only time I lost someone was when he decided to curbstomp SHeart into the pit on my last run.
Even in honour mode ive never really had a hard time with him.
