Act III very low FPS ?
everything was perfect Act 1 and 2

arriving in act 3 , 30 to 45 fps , Ive tried changing graphic setting, and resolution etc it does'nt change anything,

its like the game wasn't using the graphic card anymore. running a 3080 Ti

Dense city with buildings and etc, and lots of npcs moving around. I have a 2060 so mine is a little worse off and it happens. It's just shear size of it all. They probably should have divided it more or had some places have separate interiors, but I like the open feeling of the city. I wonder if there is a mod or if one could be made to remove all the unnecessary citizen npcs.

I played games with many more NPC's running around and it ran perfectly. Larian needs to optimize their npc coding and texture lod loading because when you zoom all the way in, you can see some extremely ugly pop ins from hell.

ACT 3 have way more content and sub-area than ACT 1 ACT 2 combined.

That's because it's not an issue on your end. The optimization for Act 3 is terrible.

Some people claim that Act 3 runs just as well as Act 1 and 2 for them, but you never know if people are telling the truth around here and when I've seen other streamers play it they get the same FPS drops I do. The Lower City especially seems to have areas where the FPS drops are super noticeable.

Open task manager. Select bg3.exe and set priority to high. That fixed my abyssal frame rates.

Did nothing for me. I stopped playing and hope that the next patch will solve the issues. Wyrm's castle is unplayable for me.

Act 3 simply needs to be optimized in general. among other things, and I truly hope we get more such improvements in further patches.
This game has just been so wonderful so far.

same here , ive stopped at wyrm castle was just a big mess laggy, im waiting for a fix,
if removing the generic citizen crowd would fix the problem i would do it ( because weve got the random named NPC without quest but also all the moving no name citizen not interactable

What's your CPU? Not necessarily the case here, but people in general neglect their CPU when upgrading. You can have a cutting edge graphics card but if your CPU is a 7700 from nearly a decade ago it's going to struggle.

the recommanded CPU for bg3 is a Intel Core i7 8700K

I have a i7 9700k overclock at 5gh each core ( small cooler on it )
I know that its starting to be an older CPU but its still a good one , on the monitoring of the CPUID HWMonitor it indicate only 59 to 75 % CPU utilisation when im in wyrms crossing, and on the windows task manager Ive got spike going to 100% ( without any google page open etc )

i dont have those problem in the other game i play
juste an exemple Assassin creed Valhalla Ive got 90fps stable, and its comparable in terms of stuff around me in cities... , act3 optimisation is the problem there.
it really seem like graphic card is not use properly either in act 3

If anyone else stumbles on this, switching to DX11 resolved a major fps issue I had in Act 3.
Running a Rzyen 5 3600 and Nvidia 3080 I generally got 60-80 fps with Vulkan, once I got to the city it was about 40-60, and after a few minutes it would almost act like I had a memory leak and I'd be getting 10-15 fps. Changing the DX11 fixed the huge fps drop problem.

The city is very processor dependent. I upgraded my processor to an i9-12900k with the same GPU and my act 3 city FPS doubled.

Turning off the unnamed npcs in the option helps a tad with it, but not by much.

I7-13700HX with 4070 and getting the 30 to 50 with both Vulcan and dx11. Even turned settings to low and it didn’t change anything. Even worse is that playing crossplay on ps5 plays better. This is act 3 only btw

Noup, no problems at all runs smooth and fast in act3… at least on my rig.
GPU 5700xt so old, but still ok. CPU 5800x3d… so. Much newer than my gpu.
This game does not need fast GPU, this game needs fast CPU!

was doing a 4 man run with the wife we got to act 3 and she cant load into the lower city without the game freezing. sucks we spent over 70 hours getting to where we are at get to the lower city just to find out we cant continue because shes stuck. once in a blue moon she can load in. but if she enters say a basement. or anything that transitions to a new zone. she cant come back to the city.
