"Talk to the captain of the githyanki creche" - "Discover the artefact's secrets" quest
Okay so, I've tried and failed this like five separate times now, and i'm getting frustrated.

I have the quest "Discover the artefact's secrets" with the direction of "Talk to the captain of the githyanki creche". okay, so i do that, right?

I have tried multiple different options when talking to her. and i get one of two results: She tells me to leave and not return unless i have the weapon, or she attacks me. NEITHER of these outcomes progresses the quest at all. I've even tried going through these steps as Lae'zel and i STILL get the same results.

What steps do i need to go through to actually get information on the artefact!? i'm told "Talk to the captain", but that doesn't get me anywhere! i'm able to learn what it looks like, and that she doesn't know what it does... but neither of these outcomes progress the quest.

i am honestly super confused as to what exactly the game wants me to do here, help?

You're supposed to hand her the artefact.

that seems like a bad idea.

Pretty much everyone / everything around me is telling me "do not give the artefact to the gith"

Welp.

Is there at least a way to convince her i need to talk to the inquisitor? or is she basically just a mandatory death?

Threads like this are begging to be spoiled. Just proceed as you can, I promise you it will be fine.

You need to smack her and then smack her boss

It's not a bad idea despite how it seems, and honestly, if you're dying repeatedly right there, then you have a convenient save point if the end result is not one you like. It'll resolve pretty quickly.
they present it in a confusing way - presenting them the artefact IS the good choice that satisfies everyone including the dream guardian. i feel like they may have had some other content or paths through this quest or a different way of doing this that would have impacted act 2/3 that is cut? i don't know. just hand it over.

I'm not dying, i'm trying to progress a quest without pissing off an entire civilisation.

the correct thing to do is to present the artefact, this is the ONLY way to progress the quest and it will not piss off anybody, it's just a badly implemented cutscene that is confusing you.

The captain carries the key to the barrier that leads to the inquisitor. I personally pick pocketed it off of her and then bluffed my way outta trouble to get in. Though, good luck finishing that quest without pissing off the whole creche. I pretty much figured that's how it would go as soon as I stepped in, so I didn't bother really trying to find a non-violent alternative. I'm honestly just surprised I made it as far as I did before pissing them off.

Pickpocket her maybe?

Good to know then, thanks. Really not helping that everything and their mother is telling me "don't do this".
