[Dark Urge] Is it worth a try? Is it a complete new route?
Hello,

I'm beginning a new playthrough, while never reaching act 2.
I'm wondering if I should try the Dark Urge origin.
(Please use spoiler tags if needed)

So I've got a few questions :

- does it limit my action range?
Without spoiler, I know about the squirell and Alfira...which makes me think this playthrough offers less choices and is more heavily hand-guided.
Is it?

- Is there a whole story about this origin, slowly revealed?
Or should I see it more like a last minute addition to the game, for fun livestreams, adding a couple of chaotic interactions?

Thanks for your help :)

The only thing the Dark Urge bg limits, is it takes up your background slot.

All the evil dialogue options and character options are that - Optional.
You will however only get inspiration points for doing insane and evil things.

Absolutely worth. You can play Dark Urge as a good one trying to fight your urges or as an evil one succumbing to them. I suggest as a good one, it's super cool.

You can save Alfira by knocking her out (toggle non-lethal attacks passive) before that one night. You'll see another course of actions then.

It's been my favorite playthough so far. Alas, I had to reliqish that tole to my husband. It had a good story and some of your options are down right hilarious.

I'm a big fan of BG1 and 2.

The third time i was told about the ''disgusting miasm moving inside you'' i gave up. I don't mind being evil, but that's not evil, it's randomly disgusting

Keep it, it helps with an act 3 quest

To me is the ideal way to play a custom character unless you have an strict vision for your background.

Its has only two forced moments "the squirrel and Alfira" where you arent given an option. The rest like others have said, is an option. You can fully resist the urge wich gives you a more heroic and fufilling (in my opinion) character arc.

Alfira can by bypassed. If you do then instead a dragonborn called Quil takes her place. As for the squirrel, talk to animals being active means you can entirely avoid that one ending in violence. (for Alfira nonlethal damage, do a sneak attack to knock her out while she is still in the grove)

The background seems to get less limiting/forced incidents as the game goes on and opens up to being a really interesting plot

There are some points from killing evil people.

Thanks for helping me try the Dark Urge.
I'm not far into the story, but I really enjoy it.

As someone with sometimes vivid and strong Intrusive thoughts, I can completely relate to this origin story.
I just made Astarion join me and my char stared in the void smiling, thinking about dead bodies.
A bit other the top, so very funny to me.
And the fact it's linked to BG1 and BG2 is really the cherry on top.

Thanks again for your help on this one. ;)
