So, you roll the die, and it is either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8.
If it has a "+1" note it means you roll the die like above and add a "1" to total number.
2d8 means two dice are rolled so, 1 through 8 + 1 through 8. If a modifier is on this it is just +1 per total set of rolls not +1 per die roll.
If 2 dice, you at the lowest number (1 + 1 = 2) and the largest one 8 + 8 = 16, to have the range of damage you can make (will depend on if you have leverage in terms of ground, resistance of the enemy, armor class etc. to hit more or less)
so 1d8 means a single roll of 8 face, the damage is a number between 1 and 8 with same chance to be rolled.
3d4 means 3 dice of 4, so a damage between 3 and 12.
for example if you have a weapon 1d4 which add necrotic 1d6 and fire 1d4, the damage should be 1-4 raw + 1-6 necrotic + 1-4 fire, min 3 and max 14 (if a charcacter is not immune to a damage type).
I play with my 7 year old nephew and im the dungeon master as well as another player to interact with him, plus i control the enemies. so many numbers
1d8 = an 8 sided dice from 1 - 8 that you roll.
2d8 = 2 dice rolled 8 sided both 1 - 8 with a possible max roll score of 16 or a minimum roll score of 2.
The explainations given before were all fine. If you want to play around with digital dice you could get into the D&D Beyond app. It lets you roll digital dice and gives you easy access to free D&D stuff too.
correct.
1d6 (knifes, small clubs, maces with no spikes)
1d8 (short swords, small axes)
1d8 (Long Swords, Morning Star)
1d10 (War-hammers, Halberds)
The [+] can be an adjustment from one of your physical stats. Str or Dex whichever specs well with the glass you picked.
The [1] in 1d8 is how many times the die is rolled. The [8] in 1d8 is how many sides that dice has.
For example: on a 2d8 you roll... twice those number could be
3 for the first roll
7 for the second roll.
Lastly, you can also check the [combat log] after each battle and see how the dice rolls things out, for me it was easier to understand once I saw how things were calculated out.
Each time you do singing that requires a dice roll you can give over the action preformed and it will give you a breakdown of Everton that occurred to get the result.
Props, sounds like a pain and that kid is lucky to have you in their life.
