Bard (1) - Sorcerer (11) build viable?
One of my biggest complaints with the Sorcerer is the lack of spells and utility. I am trying out this build so I get more skills and utility without sacrificing my level 6 spell access. So far it seems to be working great. Starting stats are 8 Str, 17 dex, 14 con, 8 int, 10 wis and 16 cha. At level 5 I took ASI + 2 to charisma and I used the hags hair to get the 18 dex. I have a great AC for a sorcerer and use a rapier and dual crossbows from the bard.

Picking Bard for 1 lvl only just for skills is just wrong. You can easily go 3 levels and sorcerer doesnt lose spell progression with bard.

With how important the persuasion skill is getting expertise on it is very viable imo and therefore going 1 bard is a viable move if you prefer to talk yourself through encounters. If you prefer to blast your way through go for 12 sorcerer.
Is it viable? sure, its it optimal? probably not.

It would suck as others said, you don’t need anything that bard has to offer, hand crossbows you are better off with rogue so you can sneak attack.

Sorcerer is honestly best on its own, if you multi class it you are better off with 2 lvls warlock or something like that

If it works for you it works. But with Sorceror being an offensive caster, I don't see why you want to use dual crossbows. Bards have spells of their own too, so if you want a dual crossbow utility spell caster you could just stick with Bard.

My main has 10 charisma and honestly at least through 5 levels i still pass a ton of checks. I do get +2 intimidation from dark urge. So that helps. But honestly Charisma is kinda overrated. I got no problem failing checks

Well, I would like to offer something totally different, but damn it is powerful. You 6 Lore Bard/6 Sorcerer with 100% spell success chance. This would make you think - what!? Only level 3 spells slots? Let me prove to you this is a total control monster.

First, by taking Bard, you get Cutting Words, allowing you to impact attack and saving throw rolls. Second, you get Magical Secrets, allowing to learn any spells up to level 3. Here you must get Command. In addition, you can pick SPirit Guardians or Hunger of Hadar. Command is the core of the build as it gives a total control of enemy actions.

Next you will get Sorcerer and Hat of Fire Acuity. The latter is extremely important as it will allow stacking Arcane Acuity with Scorching Ray for that 100% spell success chance. Moreover, Sorcerer, gives metamagic and some good offensive and defensive spells - shield, fireball, lightning bolt, etc.

With this you will breeze through the late act 2 and all of act 3. I have written a build with full detailed progression and gear picks for each Act - https://gamestegy.com/post/bg3/984/sorcerer-bard-multiclass-build-lorecerer

Enjoy!

Or even 8 Sorc, 4 Wizard.

You get alll feats and strong bonuses from Wizard, especially Divination school, and 5-6 extra slots for any spells you want (or more depending on your Int). They will use Charisma modifier since it's designed this way for a game, and you can metamagic all of them.
You only get 2 feats total with that multiclass. Also, you now have two competing Spell Casting Abilities - INT and CHA, which is never good.

If you want rapier and hand crossbows, play a Drow.
But for a sorcerer there are better melee options. My rapier was fast replaced with a staff giving more spell options.
And usually range attacks useful for a sorcerer. Most Cantrips will be more effective.

My next sorcerer will be Wyll with 2 lvl Warlock. Sadly missing a feat and 6th lvl spells...

Fort a Sorcerer CHA is more important as a Spell Casting Ability.
