Is throw a weapon attack?
I'm thinking of making a ranged build after a Warlock warcaster, but I'm having a conundrum with Eldritch Knight.
They get returning weapons, cool, but I do wonder if that has synergy with their extra attacks, so for example "throw a knife, it comes back and you get another throw"
If not then Bard seems to be the superior option for a ranged character.

Throwing counts as attack (even for health potions) so you can throw two times.

I think so.

This is a great video about a Karlach Throwmancer build. Should answer most of your questions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICwwAJ6Dv_0

I tested it, and it works perfectly - the only problem is AOE attack that kills bystanders :D

I've got a throwing weapon Lae'zel eldritch knight and it's pretty high damage and accuracy if you go strength based with tavern brawler. The biggest problem is that spears and tridents have massive hitboxes that make it impossible to throw them in some areas in act 3. Knives and hammers are a lot easier to throw, though so if you're big on the idea of using daggers that actually might be less painful.

Cool, and it doesn't take long for an EK to start their throwing shenanigans, amazing.
Thanks peeps.

Go barbarian rogue tavern brawler for throwing. Just use one of the returning weapons or a stock of normal throwing weapons you pick up after battles.

I think just in level 5 you will have access to 4 throws or something. 2 full attacks and 2 from enraged throw bonus action.

And they all get the sneak attack damage. It's kinda obsurd. I don't know if it's the highest damage but it's really fun.

You can also just store dead enemies in a sack and throw them absolutely hilarious.

I've taken out enemies just throwing the dang massive camping sack. Cracks me up every time.

Oh absolutely a medium armor dexterity dumper for big AC and damage gains.
Also Daggers are one of the most loved weapons by the devs, so many options and great upgrades constantly.

Love knives so much they didn't include knife master rogue. Hate it's not in here
Patch 8 here. Not sure if this is new or not. Found an old thread where ppl were complaining about throwing not being considered an attack. You here seem to think it is.

Now with the new Path of Giants barbarian you really want to be throwing. The thing is when I just throw, ant not get hit myself, the rage ends (cause throwinf isn't a weapon attack).

Rage does not require a weapon attack to keep going. It requires you to deal damage or take damage. Period. Rage Thrower Barbarian is a thing because Berserker, a base class, gets Throw as a Bonus action and people have been using pure throwing builds since before launch.
